Late change of address

Hello,

We originally applied near the beginning of March and finally have my K1 interview on 15th December. My wife to be has very recently moved (about 2 weeks ago), do I inform the Embassy of this change of address or will it cause problems this late in the process?? As my interview is only 10 days before Christmas I'm obviously anxious to get over to the USA and spend the holidays with my lady and 2 children so I don't want to cause any delays. On the other hand I'm worried that if I keep quiet but on entry to the US say that I am staying at a different address than we one we entered on the forms then I'll have a problem entering the country. What do you think? Has anyone had a similar issue? Many thanks.

James

I'd inform the Embassy. At this date, there's not much else they will be sending to you! Your interview date is set for Dec 15. Having said that, in Brazil, the Visa is given 2-3 days after the Interview. For those that chose to stay in the city of their interview , they can return to the Consulate to pick up the Visa, and a new address is not an issue. But many people return to their homes and the Visa (inside the passport) is mailed to their address on record. So you'd need the Consulate to have the right address!

Then there's the issue of any problems that creep up during the interview that can delay the issuance of the Visa. The Consulate will need to know where to send any additional information. So, I'd notify them that my address has been changed. You never know, so it's best to be prepared!

Best of luck to you on the Interview!

James,

What may cause you problems and delay is mailings from the consular section not getting to you because they were not sent to an address where you can receive them.

Many thanks for the replies. MY address is unchanged, so I will still be able to receive mailings. The applicant (my wife to be, who lives in the US) has changed her address, but very recently so her mail is still being forwarded (so she can also receive mail).

I was just concerned that on my entry to the USA I am usually asked to provide an address of where I am staying and I wasn't sure if this has to be the same as the address on our original application.

munky,

I missed the key fact that it was your wife who'd moved, not you. My appologies for the confusion.

As for your I-94, answer the question that is asked - where do you intend to stay.

I moved to a different state before my fiance's interview. He simply called and told the embassy of my move. At the interview they asked my fiance, why I moved to a new state? I moved due to a job opportunity. It was not a major issue.
