AP can take weeks or months, sometimes years. It includes name checks, security checks, document verification and less often home visits

in high fraud countries.

No one will know how long it takes and they will contact you when it is complete. What exactly they check is classified and they will not tell you.

The petitioner can call DOS biweekly or so and inquire what the status is.

There is absolutely nothing else you can do now but wait.

This happened to me at the same point in the timeline. I spoke with DOS on this issue. If it's like me, it means that the consulate has received your petition and is processing the P3 to send to you so expect it in a few days.

noahsmama, no one knows for sure, but it won't be morβe than a few weeks.

I am not blabbing and it is not exaggeration and no bull police needed but thanks for the edit, I got the unedited comment by the way !

If you stick around you will learn what AP is to many people and stop talking like a newbie. Hang out in the waiver/AP forum for a while

and get enlightened.

You can not know how long AP takes. End of story.

An embassy specific pattern sometimes emerges but each case is an individual case and completion can not be predicted. Period.

Research before you talk about a tin foil hat.

For the most part AP takes a few weeks or months. I stated that it can take weeks, months or years.

There are many members here who have been in AP over a year, many 3-4 years and one 7 years.

My case was in AP 17 months before it was denied.

The OP asked what AP is and I answered it.

Now what is your problem ? You want a sugar coated response -puppy dogs and rain bows- or the truth ?

Stop telling someone it will not take more than a few weeks. No one knows that.

OP I hope your AP will take a short time but I hope I answered your question what AP is !

My best guess, from you reading stuff at ceac.state.gov :

Since this is a paper casefile headed to Guangzhou -

the casefile actually :

1. arrived in the GUZ IV unit from the Chinese Customs Warehouse, after sitting a bit (per treaty) and

2. casefile was actually opened, and logged into the system.

So, this is actually a good sign. However, I suggest you call DoS Hotline on Monday (Note I have suggested this often, to you) and find out the actual casefile status.

If, indeed, the casefile has been opened, then expect a P4 soon, sent out via postal mail to your parent.

I'm betting this is exactly 'what it is', as you have a NVC LEFT date of 2013-05-29, and is possible yer on the 'early edge' for getting the casefile out of that stupid China Customs Warehouse.

Seriously, call DoS Hotline on Monday, when they are opened. Report back, when yer able.

I'm sure that's true. The question is, is it the norm? You seem to have had some major issues with your case, and I hope you get them handled soon, but do not assume you and your small circle of petitioners with similar troubles fall in the middle of the bell curve. "It happened to me" is not proof it'll happen to another, nor is "it happened to this guy I know." You're generalizing based on personal experience. You are not "everyone." How many responses in this thread mirror yours in the least? Are the ones who have said the exact opposite of what you said "newbies" as well?

Now what is your problem ? You want a sugar coated response -puppy dogs and rain bows- or the truth ?

The truth is this happened to you and other people you know. That's all. That does not define "AP" for everyone, not unless it were happening to so many people, that everyone agreed.

What I do expect is a level-headed, measured, rational response, not wild exaggerations and histrionics bred out of your own disappointment. The majority of K1s seem to make it just fine, give or take a few frustrations. What you said didn't bother me personally. My problem is there are plenty of people here, especially newcomers at the beginning of this process, who would have a minor panic attack just reading your words. I care for these people since I was one of them a few months ago.

Next time try to exercise more self-control and critical thought. If you intend to help others, try to do so with a semblance of empathy and sense of responsibility, without fear-mongering.

What do you not understand about the whole gamut of AP ? The question was what does AP mean. I said WEEKS. That is the one side of AP.

I did not say that the OP's case will spend years in AP. Understand that and stop saying that I did and be accountable for your accusations.

Of course the majority of K1's make it just fine. I never disputed that. Stop putting words into my mouth.

It is your own interpretation and your false assumption that in certainty OP's case will not spend more than a few weeks in AP.

It may and it may not. You can hope for that but never say that it will not take longer than a few weeks.

I never said what happened to me will happen to the OP. You are grossly misinterpreting what I said.

My answer was not embassy specific.

As I said check the forums and see the many people stuck in AP before you start your name calling.

Just because it is your style to pat people on the back and say all will be ok in a couple weeks gives you no right

to start making accusations when someone else presents the other possibilities to a question "what does AP mean."

What exactly it means for the OP specifically we don't know for certain and perhaps Darnell came closest to deciphering what that specifically

means at this embassy.

My answer was a very general one in regards to what does AP mean and no exaggeration was made.

Try to comprehend the difference between specific and general facts of advice !

No one said the exact opposite of what I said, where do you get that ? Do you not see the word "weeks" in my initial comment but only see

years ?

I am empathetic and I do not 'fear monger'. I presented the facts of "what does AP mean" in general, all possibilities.

It definitely was not meant to scare anyone and I do not wish the hell of AP on my worst enemy and pray all come out quickly.

Do some reading before you say a few minor cases are on prolonged AP. It is definitely more than me and "a guy I know". It is a forum

in itself, not a small circle. Educate yourself and stop being so condescending.

For the record, OP, I believe Darnell and Johnsun87 had the best explanation for your specific circumstance and the purpose of this link is to clarify with the quoted poster where I gain my general AP facts from besides from personal experience or knowing just "a guy" who went through it !

It's me, ol Uncle Darnell, checking in.

cease yer b|tching, as

this is a paper casefile coming in from NVC to Guangzhou. It's been sitting in a China Customs Warehouse since 5/29/2013, per treaty, and apparently just got released from the warehouse.

This type of 'ap' is normal at GUZ IV, as the casefile is finally getting logged into the system.

Cool yer jets, relax, and walk away.

Now or Nowish... Thank You So Much, and Thanks in Advance !

[bonus Points for reading the OPs timeline - I know for certain that it's current and up-to-date]

Darnell, AP happens at all stages, even before the interview. Bonus points taken for reading the time line. I was not bitching but clarifying my comment to someone who did not understand my post intent.

I know lots about AP, even give advice about it.

But that's not the point.

My only point here, is that given the OP's exact circumstances, this is NOT the type of AP that occurs after an interview and there IS NO 221G involvement .

I stepped in, cause there's some un-necessary blethering going on here...

Sure, it's rare that someone chasing CR-1/2, IR-1/2/5 sticks with paperfile processing during the last 2 years, and folk forget about that China Customs Warehouse and why casefiles are stored there, but that's not the point.

The AP you fellas are going on about has NOTHING to do with the AP the OP is undergoing at the moment.
