NELSON, Ga. (AP) A Georgia city is backing off its ordinance requiring gun ownership.

The tiny town of Nelson in April passed an ordinance requiring heads of household to own a gun and ammunition. That prompted the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence to file a federal lawsuit in May challenging the constitutionality of the law.

The two sides on Thursday notified the court that they had reached a settlement agreement.

The settlement says Nelson will add a provision to the ordinance saying that it is not enforceable and will never be enforced.

City leaders had said they didn't intend to enforce the law and it included a number of broad exemptions. But the Brady Center argued in its lawsuit that it violated residents' constitutional rights.

Had to look up Nelson..It's right of 575 near Ball Ground. Once you start getting that far North crime is low in Ga. Most of those Northern counties are rural and over 90% white.

If they give people free food for doing nothing, they should give them free guns as well. Bearing arms is a right. Food.... not so much.

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"
