FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) Army Maj. Nidal Hasan was convicted Friday for the deadly 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, a shocking assault against American troops at home by one of their own who said he opened fire on fellow soldiers to protect Muslim insurgents abroad.

A jury of 13 high-ranking military officers reached a unanimous guilty verdict on all 13 counts of premeditated murder and a guilty verdict on 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. Hasan is now eligible for the death penalty.

They would be foolish to sentence him to death. The best thing to do now is to put him away and leave him out of the way. It was a terrible and misguided action but to compound that with turning him into a martyr would just make things worse, in my opinion especially as he has already said that is what he is hoping for. I certainly don't subscribe to any double bluff he did that to get that result #######. The guy did everyone a favour by making the case easy to prosecute and not using it to further his barmy cause.

I agree with "The Truth" Don't execute him. That will just make him some kind of martyr. Let him live in prison the rest of his life in his wheelchair. 30 years in solitary confinement while restricted to wheelchair, all the time being guarded by military folks. I don't think there's any death that could be that bad.

The trial could have been an expensive media circus and gone on for weeks . He defended himself and offered no defense, the trial went through in record time and saved us the tax payer a lot of money. As things stand there is nothing whatsoever for anyone to use as propaganda and his story stops here Martyr him with execution and the story runs and becomes more of a win for the idiots who believe in his ridiculous cause.
