Can someone give me some advise on what the best plan is for having your fiance be legally able to work as soon as possible upon entering the united states?

I've been reading that the work permit is a waste of time, has anyone else heard this? Also does the work permit expire once we are married?

Any insight on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Try to route your flight through JFK, they still stamp passport with temp EAD, then apply for longer EAD and SS number ASAP. TEMP EAD is good for the 90 days of the I-94 card, hopefully you will have the longer EAD card within the first 90 days to allow to continue working.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

The longer EAD card... is that the working papers you apply for when you apply for AOS, or is that something else?

Temp EAD can be got at POE JFK it is good for 90 days from the date of entry.... at that point you have to stop working...... 1 year EAD is filed for along with AOS and take anything from 70 days upto 100 days+ .... so the sooner you get married and file for AOS & EAD the more chance there is og getting the 1 year EAD before the 90 day one expires... it is a slim change but a chance none the less....

yes, the EADs are good for one year. After that you reapply or have your Green Card.

OK, save your money up and plan on a period of unemployment of about 6 months in the US.

As far as something that you can bank on, that is as close as you'll get. It's really the most sensible approach. If you're living hand to mouth, you're asking for too much stress IMO. There are so many things that can affect getting a job or not.. and then there's the document mess.

What will happen if yours turns out to be a blackhole case and you can't get anything squared away as planned?
