Title..

Suicide Risk Linked to Rates of Gun Ownership, Political Conservatism

Age adjusted

Oh dear god youare kidding right

here are some jewels from this person

1, Firearms are the most commonly used method of suicide by males and poisoning the most common among females.-Guess females did not get the guns cause suicide memo.

2.Firearm ownership, conservatism (measured by percentage voting for former President George W. Bush in the 2000 election), suicide rate, church adherence, and the immigration rate were measured at the state level--WTH where did they come up with lumping those together..Immigration rate.

3. With few exceptions, states with the highest rates of gun ownership -- for example, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Alabama, and West Virginia -- also tended to have the highest suicide rates. These states were also carried overwhelmingly by George Bush in the 2000 presidential election.--Translation--We ignored the data that did not back up this garbage study

You can point out what you don't like about the study all you'd like. Do the research. Read the articles. Google "gun ownership and suicide rates" ... they'll all tell you the same thing. But they aren't telling you what you want to read, so you focus on what you don't like.

How did you come up with that translation? The data wasn't ignored. It's simply saying in the majority of cases, states with high gun ownership have higher suicide rates.

Are you reading the study, or did you stop reading at the title? I'll take a guess and say you stopped reading at the title.

Do me a favor. Google "gun ownership and suicide rates"

You let me know what you find, okay?

Ok here is what I found

The USA is 33rd in the world in suicides, Many countries that have total gun control are ahead of them..

Oddly enough your Canada comes in at number 40 with a 17.9 rate, only 1.6 better than the USA, which is statistically insignificant, yet you bragall the time about the scarcity of guns in Canada, Now what were you saying about Guns causing suicide.

Care to explain how Canada and the US have almost the same suicide rate, with so few guns in Canada.

I don't brag about the scarcity of guns in Canada. The guns are there. Gun ownership is actually on the rise in Canada. They're simply harder to get and we don't seem to enjoy killing each other with them as much as Americans do. Crime has been steadily going down in Canada since the 90s.

I wasn't saying anything about guns CAUSING suicide. That's your brain playing tricks on you yet again - you should make it stop, it's making you look silly. I simply stated that states with higher gun ownership happen to have higher suicide rates.

Multiple studies show it. You ignore it. That's fine with me.

Just give me a letter and be on your way. We'll both be happier.

Can you explain to me then why countries with no or very few guns have almost the same or higher suicide rates.

You were trying to draw a conclusion between gun ownership and suicide

In your study there were some states with low gun ownership and more suicide,

It's to late to start the ,"that is not what i was trying to say, you can't read Charade".

It's no charade. You seriously misunderstand so many things that people post. If you stopped doing it, then I'd stop saying it. It doesn't seem to be happening any time soon, though.

Here is a whole thread where you champion Canada's gun laws many times.. Much tougher gun laws but almost the same suicide rate..How could that be.

The study looked at ALL THE AVAILABLE DATA and CONCLUDED that there is NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT the proposition. YET the NRA would have us believe that there is evidence of a minimum of 2.5 Million such cases. Someone is trying to pull a fast one here. I wonder who that could be? Bear in mind that the person who produced this study did not go in with an agenda, his field is risk assessment not 'I hate guns'. Also bear in mind that after producing this study of risk his recommendations do not include any attempt at legislating compliance to a 'no gun in the home' policy. Does that tell you anything at all?

Yep all available data... that tells you so much.

I'm not even sure you know what you're arguing at this point.

First you tell me that I am always talking about the scarcity of guns in Canada. Then you link to a thread where I talk about the fact that the guns are in Canada, but they're tougher to get. Which is true. I approve of Canada's gun laws. They are tough and seem to work.

What does that have to do with suicide rates in the States? Anything?

You then tell me I am saying guns cause suicide. I never said that (and you know it), and it doesn't make sense. Someone who isn't suicidal isn't going to kill themselves because a gun is accessible.

I simply said that where there are more guns, there are more suicides, especially with firearms. It's a fact, whether you like it or not. Talking in circles won't change facts. I know you'll try.

I'll say it nice and simple: guns do not cause death. They make death quick and easy.
