So we've passed the interview after much fretting, getting ready to move on to AOS. I assume that all of the documents that we submitted at the interview are in the white envelope they gave us. Some of them (financial docs and birth certificate) we'll need for the AOS packet. Will we get these back at the POE? If not, are they gone for good?

Thanks

michael

michael,

There's a reason why photocopies of documents should be submitted.

I hope you did not provide originals of anything you cannot replace because typically you do not get anything back because it remains as a component of your "permanent" file

YMMV

Hello Michael,

I remember in those pages you read before the forms, they state it there, that you can just send copies of documents, because they will not be able to return back the original documents. And when I sent all the documents, I made a copy for myself. The birth certificate, you can always ask from the statistic office or civil registrar for your a certfied copy. If you mean the affidavit of support you submitted for the K1 process. It would be another they would ask for the AOS, a more updated one. But if you made copies of all the document, it wouldn't be a problem.

Very important to make copies always. In case they lost your files in the process, at least you still have your copies.

Good luck on your AOS preparation and process.

I sent copies of absolutely everything, including the forms I had to fill out. NOTHING was original. You can try to call somewhere to ask for them back, but I'd say chances of that are slim. Better off spending your energy trying to get new versions of anything you lost from their original sources.
