Edwards, who has been charged with first-degree murder, posted racist tweets saying he hated white people in the months before the shooting.

Edwards posted statements on his Twitter feed including a comment on April 29 where he tweeted "90% of white ppl are nasty. #HATE THEM".

Edwards also weighed when George Zimmerman was acquitted over the death of Trayvon Martin.

"Ayeee I knocced out 5 woods since Zimmerman court!:) lol sh*t ima keep sleepin sh*t! #ayeeee."

"Woods" is derogatory slang for white people. The feed also contains tweets glorifying violence, guns and gangs.

Will holder bring the weight of the justice department down on this crime. .....Maybe he could take just one person off the zimmerman case to look at this one.

How do you know? Is there a link where some entity like the NAACP "approved" the term "mixed"?

This caused me to pause for a moment & ask myself...am I "Mixed" or am I "German American"..?

I suppose ...the correct answer is both.

(but) If I was ever on the news and someone referred to me as "mixed"...quite frankly...I think that would cause me to do the back & forth sideways over my shoulder point at my chest maneuver and say..."Who? Me? ...I'm not mixed...I'm American."

(and) Following that line of thinking = The overwhelming majority of US citizens are "mixed"...including our POTUS yet...he is always referred to as "The First Black POTUS"...& ..that's not true. He is indeed mixed and that doesn't make him unique at all. Quite ordinary.

(and) Then I recall...a movie - "Gangs of New York"...& the conflict between the "true" Americans & the Immigrants. The reason they considered themselves "true" coz they were born on US soil...which with that logic = kills my mixed German American profile claim coz I too was born on US soil.

So.. surely I'm not the 1st to face this quandary ....& that makes me think "mixed" only refers to people of color (for some reason white is only a color in crayon boxes)...& no whites allowed. I suddenly feel... discriminated against.

Regardless - I assume that is you in your profile pic. Correct me if I am wrong but I guess you are of African descent & a person of color...I'm curious...does that make you an authority regarding the PC use of the term mixed? Is that correct? & why?

I have a friend ...his Mother is Black & his Father is White.. I've never referred to him as my "mixed" friend...I just call him Gary.

(I watched way too much Andy Rooney growing up)

Because unless it's used in a negative connotation, it's a regular response to someone who has biracial.

My sons are both black and German. So when someone asks me what they are(I get that alot) I respond they're mixed. It's more slang than anything else.

As for the POTUS, I suspect it's the aspect of the one drop rule. Plus, if he didn't say so many folks would just assume he was black due to his brown skin.

In my opinion, the "true Americans" are the Native Americans. Everyone else is the immigrants.

Mixed is usually used in terms of black and other races due to most of the time(not all) when a black person and person of any other ethnicity get together, the black traits usually manifest themselves more profoundly. I've dated a Japanes woman who had a daughter by a black man. Let's just say I would have never have known that was her daughter by looking at little girl by herself. My oldest son has brown skin but straight hair, my youngest has brown skin but curly hair.

I'm not the authority, I was just adding my experience since I'm one of the few black posters to be in the forum on a regular basis.

He's already arrested and awaiting trial. He's not going to walk. You know it.

IMO - referring to some1 as "mixed" should only be used when identifying a suspect during an active search for the suspect. After that suspect is identified and found - Name, sex & age only. That goes for Black White Yellow Brown Albino...etc.

IMO - the term "mixed" used in any other way (than above) is in itself a derogatory term because it labels & minimizes the individual as a breed of animal. (but) I suppose some1 might ask something like..."well...isn't she cute...what is she? Black? Asian? What?" & in the right familiar / intimate setting maybe that's Okay... otherwise - from my POV - the person asking the question just fell out of favor (with me). It's kinda like = I can speak my mind inside the privacy of my home but outside those doors...I give and demand respect as an individual...not a breed of human.

I think I get your POV (even we don't completely see eye to eye) & thanks for taking time to respond.

On another note I do think jiggers tend to put their lives on the line. I am always surprised when driving in rural areas when I see semi-clad people running by themselves in the middle of nowhere. there is no way that I would ever do that as there are so many mutters out there.

I prefer a gym or private beach.

Although even gyms are not 100 percent safe ((as in the case of Hugh Jackman in a NY gym and his female stalker incident- lol)

I would never go jogging by myself near Camp Kadena in Okinawa, for example.

Here in Japan anyone who has one foreign parent and one Japanese parent is called a half. I even use the term myself. After WW2, this was originally a derogatory term. However nowadays being a half is a certain status, and is deemed glamorous. I was shocked when I first came here and Japanese people would describe themselves as yellow. It is interesting to see how language evolves.

That's why I said it's a matter of how you use it. I think for most folks, mixed is the more relaxed term for biracial. I can see how it could be used in a derogatory way. Heck my wife is Malay, Chinese, Melanu. But when you ask her, she just says I'm a malay. Now if someone jokes and says they are a mutt, then I say you shouldn't say that. You're not a dog.

I see you POV and it brings up a good point. I'll try to refrain from using that termanology.

I saw this really good looking mixed chick the other day ( before i was married) I mean she was as fine as queen Latifah, who I consider quite sexy.

Anyway.I struck up the conversation ,with some sexist commit, that started out with..Hey Red

She laughed and smiled and we talked further...So I am assuming Red is on the approved list ?

I like how you say the other day like it was a couple days ago but you've been married for a whiledevil.gif

Red is short for redbone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redbone_%28ethnicity%29

But most black people use it for those folks that are light skinned but have a slight brown tint to their pigment. As not to appear high yellow(another crazy term)

Here in the South the other day could be last week or 7 years ago..It's like Chinese, it's all in the inflection.

As for Red Bone..I knew the term...Dated one when I was at my OBC class.

I don't think Redbone is offensive

High Yellow--Somehow I do think that term is.

I think Red is a black term

I think High Yellow is more of a klan term
