Hello,

I have encountered some problem again. Didn't put date on the letter of intent beside my signature..Is it necessary or not since it has date already on the upper left portion?

We never did, just had the date at the top of the letters.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

My fiancee and I had already finished drafting the LETTER OR DECLARATION ON HOW WE MEET and on our last and final review for all the documents he suddenly saw a post that said it shouldn't be too complex. We decided to revise / redo the letter and just put something like this:

"We communicated online and I told her I was vacationing in the Philippines. She picked me up at the airport and brought me to the hotel where she purchased a room. We stayed there for several days while looking for a town home. We found a town home located at Block 3 Lot 11, Villa Del Rio Mactan, Babag2, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines where she continued to stay with me for my entire 2 month trip."

Will this be okay or do we need a more detailed one?

That's far too detailed. Look for other examples. For your embassy, you can get away with whatever fits into the box on the I-129F form.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Actually, the one I have drafted is worst than that. Mine was way too detailed like a novel. lol..That's how he redo it. Don't know what else to write if that one is far too detailed as well..

Try the above, if it fits the "met in person within the last 2 years" timeframe. If there has been another visit since, report that in as concise a fashion as the above suggestion: "We were together again from [date] through [date]."

All we wrote were two sentences, something like "We met online in June 2010 on xxx. We met each other in person on [insert dates of visits] both in Germany and the US." We got approved without hassle.

Si, man. Brevity is better.

However, readers here should bear in mind that for some countries (Vietnam comes to mind), including a detailed "timeline of relationship" within the I-129F petition package can prove to be crucial at the consular stage. USCIS will not care about this detail, as long as you're eligible to marry and have been together in person within the last two years, but USCIS will pass this along to the consulate, which will care greatly.

Always consult "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy" (links atop every VJ page) and your VJ regional subforum for insights about front-loading the petition package with evidence of bona fide relationship.

A declaration letter of how you met in person is NOT requried. Just two sentences in the Question 18 box.

A Letter of Intent to marry IS required from both.
