Divorce Decree

I think I read that it needs to be certified, which the version I sent was not. I never got a certified copy from the lawyer, just a copy. Anyone ever have an issue with a copy or have had it go through without an issue. I sort of expect an RFE, but it doesn't sound like the end of the world.

It just needs to be a copy of the divorce decree you get from the court. It usually has some sort of seal, stamp or signature on it showing it is an official certified copy of the document that is registered with the court.

Your initial filing can be a copy, but the Embassies can -- and I believe have -- asked to see a certified copy. That is a document stamped with the Court that is embossed (i.e., raised), or in color, which the court clerk is certifying to the world is a true and accurate copy of the original in the court's files. I highly suggest you have one at the interview. Most countries only have a nominal charge for such a copy.

I just went to the courthouse and asked for a certificate of divorce, which the clerk looked at the records and signed a statement that the records show I am divorced and put the county seal on it, cost me $10. I sent a copy of that, and was never asked to see the original.

this is why I'm concerned. some answers saying need to be certified and some answers say it just needs to be a copy. I just made an actual copy of the divorce decree. I can bring a certified copy to the interview with no problem but I thought it just needs to be a regular copy for now.
