MODERATORS MODERATE TOO MUCH???

I don't know about everyone else out there but I think some moderators take their power WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. I made a suggestion today to a fella that was asking about how his mother could sponser his spouse to come into the US even though his mother had been sick for six months last year and was unable to work. (Therefore his mother fell below US poverty guidelines.) He explained how he only made about 200 dollars last year. What the heck!? So I suggested in a nice way that perhaps HE should get a job and sponsor his wife. That maybe it was unfiar to burden his mother with this financial stress. And maybe he was not being fair to his spouse, bringine her into a situation of living below the poverty line here. And guess what?? As usual a higher than mighty moderator removed my comment from the thread saying it was not CONSTRUCTIVE. Hahaha, yeah I guess suggesting that someone actually get a job and work to support their own spouse is not constructive. Give me a break! Does anyone else here have similar experiences with moderators getting in t eh way of open opinion or suggestion?

Agreed. The moderators take action as much as people cry. Basically, people cry too much.

Well, thank you very much. I hope was can get others to read this thread. Moderators should step in if people start getting pushy, threatening, racist or vulgar, etc...but just because a person suggests that someone trying to bring their spouse to the US needs to get a job??? What is this world coming to? There is a difference between moderation and cencorship.

This thread is a little more related to the former politics and religion forums, but you'll get an idea of moderating rules in this read:

What did you actually say? because no post that said "I think you should get a job" would get removed. It seems to me that you said something else or said it in a mean way and now you are mad and trying to play innocent.

No one likes to get scolded, yo.

This should really be moved to Site Related, should an organiser come across it.

It's not an issue of censorship. This is a privately-owned website and when you agree to the Terms of Service, you agree (amongst other things) that your posts may be removed if they are offensive to other people. There's no First Amendment on VJ.

That being said, I have seen a lot, LOT worse on VJ. Still, someone took offense to what you said. Not being able to see what you wrote, I can't tell if what you originally wrote was written in a more potentially inflammatory way. Best thing to do is dust yourself off and repeat after me: VJ, sheeeesh.

From here forward I will copy and save all posts before I make them because one moderator can pull something for no apparent reason. I am not angry but does this kind of take away from the open conversation that should take place here?

Have a great day! Aloha

It could be that someone reported your post as offensive, that's why your post was removed.

Merrytooth,

Yes, I suppose you are correct. Suggesting that someone should perhaps at least consider getting a job to help out their mother who was off of work for 6 months last year due to an illness....what was I thinking?? His mom fell below the poverty line last year and now he wants her to support his spouse? hahahaha I say this with all the kindness and love in my heart.

It's just a manner of minutes before a "moderator" removes this from the site....hahahaha I'm actually surprised it has lasted this long. I see that Queen Penguin touched it and didn't remove it. Thanks Queen Penguin for that!

Have a great day!

Penguin moved this to the appropriate sub forum. No harm in that.
