Awww thank you. How kind of you. Well unfortunately she got some folk who i thought were "friends" join her petty party and man it was a feeding frenzy on me. So I should really be more in control!

Do you have any advice on moody dogs? Dex is like a little woman.

Just reflecting any instability in his life most likely. With enough exercise and being in his place, he should be happier. Consistency is the key. It's possible he has allergies (does he lick himself, like his paws, a lot?) or is just getting old and grumpy. He also might reflect a bit of the instability of the helping others and just needs an outlet. More play time (hey fetch can be done a long lead like a horse lunge line) or more exercise might be what he needs. Don't ever reward bad behavior with treats or pats or positive attention though. Only use his name when you want his attention, and make sure he answers your commands when you make them, not the 15th time. (So Dex, Sit.. is followed with Dex! SIT! and pushing his bum, lift on the leash (head up bum down) to sit, then GOOD SIT!!! with reward. I like to remind the dog of "what" it did right and it re enforces the command. If he sits randomly, say Sit, to him and he'll also correlate the word with the action. This also is part of you always telling him what to do, not him making his own decisions when on a leash.)

Sometimes there is only so much you can do, they're individuals and as they age, it does get harder to train... But hey learning to read is easy for a child but for an adult it's incredibly difficult. Same with dogs. You can teach old dogs new tricks, it just takes 10x longer to do so.

My mom's dog is a Jack Russell. He's very smart, knows a bunch of tricks, but has never liked to cuddle. My step dad used to yank him up on the couch and cuddle him, growling and all. Eventually he'd stop well, because he was smart enough to know not to bite the hand that fed him and because my step dad just told him to shush and ignored the moodiness. He has allergies and hates being touched in general. When you play tug o war with him and try to grab his front paws he lifts them out of the way until they're not on the ground LOL. But the growling was all posturing, he knew he wasn't alpha and wasn't getting his way. Right now he's 14 and so crotchety my mom has a hard time getting him to heel, but for a long time she's let him do what he wants so I can't blame him.

The one thing I do believe in is karma and I know it's due for some people. You are a sassy lady, I know you'll stay strong.

Oksy this all makes perfect sense. Dex is a pug/Jack Russell mix so he is moody and stubborn. I know his moods are due to my work schedule, but I do what I can for him and i also walk him over a mile a day when I am able. I know his mood is directly affected by mine and mine hasn't been the greatest recently, but it's been hard. I love my boy. He needs his dad.

my karma is telling me to go to bed. My shoulders hurt from stress and my heart hurts right now. I want my little girl's hugs. It's hard to be excited about a new job atm even.

But I had fun talking about dog training. I'd like to make a career out of it, but I don't know how truly feasible it is.

Exactly what it is right now. You're stressed and busy, and he reflects that. When your hubs gets there, it'll even out I'm sure. smile.png The jack russell in him wants exercise and the pug wants to sit in your lap. LOL What an odd combo. Oh hey watch this:

I know a bit about dog training, for hunting dogs.

and farming dogs

and ranching dogs.

I don't keep a pet , though. when i have a dog, it's a co-worker and we get along.

my wife wants a dog as a pet. I am in deep doo doo.

We'll go to a shelter together and she can pick the critter she wants. I'm still going to train it, regardless. I refuse to be liable for a dog bite , so that dawg is gonna get some training.

shetland doggies? someone mention them? the best set I ever saw, was a trio - mom and son and daughter. They could herd almost anything. I had to care for them almost a month, and as long as they got outside and had some herding to do, they were fine later, each day.

no herding? they'd start herding each other inside the house. not so pretty.
