Happy happy joy joy...

on a different note check out the weather channel for Denver. It's rained pretty much non-stop since Tuesday night? Boulder is flooded. Craziness!

Ooooh boy.

Been humping around with a cane for an hour. Let's see.. what did I do?

Had a nice sit down at the porcelain altar.

Had a much needed bath

Got into the kitchen, ate a salad and made a gallon of jasmine tea (put that in the fridge)

End of report ! Off to Physical therapy in the morning... grrr.

No pain from surgery, I can bend the knee fully but I'm scared about it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

stay off the bum leg....or you'll never marklar again.....

that reminds me of a story about an 18th century Japanese emperor. His name was Shimyshinto.........

So one day, Shimyshinto was looking for a new bodyguard, so he recruited the top 3 samurais in Japan to go to his palace so he could see what they can do......

The first Samurai throws an orage in the air, draws his sword and screams "Bonsai", and the orange comes down in 8 perfectly even slices. Shimyshinto was very impressed.

The second samurai throws an apple in the air, and screams "haya" the apple comes down in 16 even slices, and it was peeled and cored.....

Shimyshinto looks at the third samurai and said "How you gonna top that?"

The third samurai opens a little sake bottle, a mosquito flies out, he draws his sword and yells "asaw" and the mosquito flies away......

Shimyshinto, not impressed....said "You missed!!"

The samurai replied....."yes. But he will never ** again" .....

Great joke! Not sure why a samurai would shout "bonsai", but is that part of the joke?

My wife wants one of those flat topped convection stoves. My family had one when I was a kid, and I found it a pain in the butt over a gas stove. I think she likes it because it appears easier to clean, but in reality they're a pain in the butt to keep clean, you just look at the sucker and burnt on food seems to appear from nowhere.

I say get her a new oven if you can swing it. Keeping the spouse happy is a good thing, and if buying her appliances will do it, you're a lucky man.

We're limited to electric (no ready set-up for gas). I've been warned away from those flat-topped glass stoves; people always return to the coil burners. Induction is the rage now, but they're too expensive.

The home-warranty co. generously agreed to cash out the estimated repair amount so that we can apply it to a cooktop of Mrs. T-B.'s choice, whee man.

Saw some decent ones on store websites (I'm partial to a Kenmore that I saw), but a buddy suggests finding a used, top-line premium brand that someone has swapped out during a renovation -- Jenn-Air, Electrolux, or similar. He says that they're almost always in working order because they're almost always swap-outs. Mrs. T-B. is cautiously receptive to the idea but wants to see pictures first. The buddy might even have one that he can give us. Film at 11, see man.

I have one each of these in my house. an induction coo ktop in basement, and GE Profile on second floor. Both are glass tops and easy to clean. The GE is a 36 inch "profile" series. The option was the higher end "cafe" series. No complaints on either one. But these things are not cheap.

Gracias for the input, si man. Our current setup is 30". Wish we could go for induction, but that's not in the financial cards at the moment. Maybe GE's cooktops are better than their dishwarshers (Texas spelling).

I still prefer to chase after used clothes, made in USA or the UK, none of this 'made in China' garbage save for underbritches or socks.

I had an exceptionally frugal childhood, teen-age-hood, and those habits never left me. Sometimes it's useful, when house hunting or seeking land for big gardening.

In SC it's known as a pop or simply a "coke" for any kind of soda. A dollar bill is known as a "one". Here in the NE, a pop is known as a soda. A dollar is known as a "single"

In Texas, everything is a "coke" except for Co-Cohlur specifically. Ones.

Interesting that in Ecuador (where they use U.S. currency), they use our dollar coins almost exclusively, instead of the paper bills. They have their own nickels, dimes, quarters, & half-dollars, but they use our pennies and bills exclusively. Some who see our $2 bills consider them to be very good luck; those who are unfamiliar with them are suspicious of them as "funny money."

On one of our last trips to Ecu, on the last night, Mrs. T-B. said, "I want crabs!" I nearly told her to consort with one of the native guys. We went to a crab-house, where she devoured approximately 6 crabs. I filled up on rice and plantain chips, mostly. The total bill was something like $13. I paid with a $10, a $2, and a $1. The waiter took it to the manager, who was at another table counting the night's receipts. He saw the $2, perked up, looked over at me, and held up the $2 expectantly. I said "Un otro!" (bad Spanish for "one more!"). He came over, gladly handed me two crab-greased dollar coins, and happily took his second $2 bill.

Those coins plus the one that I had left very neatly equaled our final expense in Ecu: the cab ride to our hotel.

I like $2 bills and will take all that my bank has. They're twice as efficient as $1 bills, si man. It used to be that older Americans considered them to be bad luck, but I've found recently that folks really dig them.

-------

Story about dollar coins in Ecu: They're still chiefly using the older Sacagawea (Indian babe) coins from the early 2000s. Going down there, I'd always take several rolls of the dollar coins for personal use and to sell (at a discount) to Mrs. T-B.'s #2 sister, who runs a cell-phone store in their rather small hometown where it's hard to keep a good supply of dollar coins on hand.

I had a good supply of uncirculated Presidential dollar coins, and I used one coin to pay for a cab ride in Mrs. T-B.'s town. The young driver took it and marveled at it. I said, in awful Spanish, "Es nuevo, de mi banco en los Estados Unidos" ("it's new, from my bank in the U.S."). He looked at it, looked at me, and smiled in gratitude. I was in a hurry then, so that was it. To this day, I regret not having given him a second one for himself, and not having the vocabulary to tell him that there were more in #2 Sister's store right there where he'd dropped me.

tea makes me sick, I can't handle the smell of it and no way can I drink it in any form. Coffee smells good but I can't stand the taste I really hate it in desserts.

Pork-flavored ice cream is just what you need, si ma'am!

Alright, alright... bloody hell..

LPoP so not bloody read, man.

Finally got new dishwarsher, whee man.

Installers calls at 9:45a to say that they'd be there in half an hour. At 10:50a, they show.

First guy enters, looks under sink, says "Uh-oh -- the valve's corroded, and we can't pull off the water line."

He says to call a plumber for that and to call Home Despot to learn our next step.

Installers leave us new machine, connectors, & manuals.

I call Mrs. T-B. Mrs. T-B. calls Celso the Plumber, who agrees to come at 5p.

I call HD, which agrees to refund $49 installation fee because we wanted to use C the P to install the thing.

Mrs. T-B. comes home with Mini-B.

We all take roaring naps (me first, zzz man).

C the P comes at 5p, installs machine, finishes at 7p. Total fee = $150.

C the P observes that the installers could have done the job but were too chicken, cluck man.

I curse the installers but am grateful to C the P, who does magnificent work at bargain rates.

I load new dishwarsher and run it on 1-hour wash with heated dry. Machine runs almost silently.

I drag old machine to curb. Courtesy of roving scavengers, old machine vanishes within 3 hours.

New machine finishes in timely fashion. Dishes et al. clean but extremely wet, drip man.

Those dryer-pellet thingies are expensive, $i man. Any alternatives, or cheap places to get them?

Home-warranty co. offered $229 (same as a builder-grade Hotpoint for sale at HD) as recompense for replacing our old machine, which was old but of higher quality. I sweet-talked the cute-sounding customer-service chica into filing a dispute in which I asked for $299 (price of the Amana model at HD that we got). Should hear by Friday or early next week, $u$pen$e man.

Total price of new machine (unit, delivery, 3-year warranty, installation) = $560. Even if home-warranty co. plays hardball and sticks with the $229, the net total expense will have been $331, $i man. On almost as good a par as when we replaced our water-heater last year, whee man.

On almost as good a par as when we replaced our water-heater last year, whee man.

a real man installs his own dishwasher.........And then makes his wife wash dishes by hand..........

Infected finger... trip to Doctor's today, lovely.

Stop sticking your fingers where they don't belong.

I've got painkillers at the moment. May be given antibiotics when I go to the Doctor's.

A real man no need pain killers. He enjoys pain.....
