VJ community, I need some help/advice from those who already been thru this. I filed the I-130, and few days ago received NOA2 kicking.gif , so what I'd like to do is be somewhat ready and do my best to speed up the process (if possible). Could you please tell me what I need to put/gather in terms of documents, step by step, and also what my spouse who is overseas needs to fill out/do. THX

thx unsmiley, it is helpful, what I would like to know is what is it that I can do at this moment to collect from papers/documents, to be somewhat ready when the NVC sends me required docs. Like the tax transcripts, letter from employer, etc.

Go here to the NVC fliers thread read Post #1 and #2. You can have all your AOS(Affidavit of Support) package together and the DS-230 package all buut the police report together.

thx guys, this is what I was looking for. correct me if I am wrong, I can do few things on my own, i.e. collect /prepare doc's but the majority of it can only be done when I receive the letter from NVC?

Also, my NOA2 was on 8/15, should I wait one week before I call NVC, and the main thing to ask them is to give me that case #, right?

Sorry, but don't get your hopes up about getting an NVC case # so soon. There are a lot of threads on this site about people being told it takes up to 8 weeks for your I-130 to get to NVC. What your NOA2 says about "we have sent....to the NVC" is just a big lie. After 30 days I contacted my Senator's office and they found my file sitting in the Chicago USCIS field office. Two weeks later it miraculously appeared at NVC.

I see that you are from Illinois, so if NVC doesn't have your file after 30 days as stated on your NOA2, contact, via website, Senator Mark Kirk's office. The replied to me within 30 minutes and had answer for me the very next day.

I'm unsure how the NVC not having the file prevents someone from making sure they know the process that goes on at the NVC or from acquiring the documentation needed? It's still a good idea, IMO, get to get everything ready and know the process involved before the petition makes it to the NVC.

My file made it to the NVC in 3 weeks, but you're right that it takes up to 90 days. Getting a senator or congressman involved is a good idea if the file is taking too long for sure. Thankfully you're able to help the OP know the name of such a senator! :D Hopefully they won't need it but, ya never know.

Sorry, I did not address the subject of getting familiar with the NVC process and getting all the documents ready. That is not just a good idea, but mandatory if you want to get through the process as quickly as possible. I just did not want the OP to have unreal expectations about the time frame.

After getting the NOA2, I had my wife send me all the original documents that we would need for the NVC phase. So when the time came I had the DS-230 with her signature and everything else that we needed.

OP...if you need tax transcripts you can order them on-line at: irs.gov.....it takes about 10 days to get them.

Using a Senator or Congressman.....don't do this frivolously. My I-797 (NOA2) stated that NVC should have my file within 30 days. I only contacted Sen Kirk after these 30 days had elapsed. But, of course, I hope you don't need such help !

You can go ahead and get EVERYTHING ready NOW. You just don't send it in until NVC is ready to receive it. Time to get busy.

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

If you want to send more evidence of a genuine relationship to the NVC to have it ready for the consulate, then also get that paperwork ready with the Immigrant Visa (IV) package (the one that contains the DS-230.) Otherwise I would check out ways for her to get around where you live, places she can shop or go. What is involved in getting a driver's license for her if she wants one. Anything you can do to help her move in and feel at home once she arrives in the USA.
