What would he kiss the ring good-bye? His finacee has the ring. Are they going to go and demand that she return it?rofl.gif

I wouldn't pay a dime, especially 2 months after the fact.

Ah, I thought they were holding the ransom, which happens quite often in the Philippines.

My experience is limited to VN so I know it's not directly relevant but - I'm not a fan of Fed Ex either. I ship often to Vietnam using a company called Viet Link (here in Orange County). I can ship a five pound box for $15 and it will arrive in SGN in a week (delivery to home or office). Viet Link inspects the contents and collects customs taxes on this end (electronics like iPads are taxed heavily...I always carry these with me to VN and never ship for tax and potential theft reasons).

We've never had a box opened or delayed. I'm not naive - I am sure they are receiving preferential treatment. Fed Ex would cost 5 times as much and my guess is the package would sit in customs for a while.

Not everyone has easy access to a shipper like this but if you can find one that specializes in shipping to the country of your interest I'd recommend looking into it.

Ah..also...Viet Link ships to the US (costs about 3 times as much in that direction) but they are faster than any other type of post out of VN and are very careful with what they ship. Personal experience seeing things broken using the standard post office in SGN.

Please don't get me wrong :) I trust FedEx cuz they always did a good job when they deliver it to anywhere I want that's why it felt like love at first sight the first time I used it.

Other logistic company such as UPS, DHL and even post office are recommended too. It's just that OP talked about FedEx so I gave him my thought & experience with FedEx.

Hello;

I sent my finance in Manila, the document package for interview, & she also wanted me to send her the engagement ring. I sent them both to her through FedEx, for around $80.00. I was then notified that the package was stuck, at customs; & to make a long story short, they needed $206, for what I estimated to be $500 value ring. They ended up charging 211.66 for duties, & taxes, & 27.69 for Brokerage Ancillary Service Fees. I wasn't happy about it but paid the 239.35, which was almost half the value of the ring, but she did get the package.

Now over a month later, fedex sent me a record of an additional, $302.63, for Storage fee, $425.25, for deconsoidation fee,$89.27 value added tax, & $15.00 documentation fee, & a $1.04 service change. So an additional, $833.19, along with the $239.35. Total $1,072.54 for a ring I valued at $500. I agreed to the 239.35, but would of had them send it back or keep it, for an additional 833.19 which I never agreed to pay.

This is supposed to be a broker as well, but I already paid a brokerage fee with the 239.35.

What's going on here?

Thanks, for any insight;

I'm pretty sick to my stomach, but can't talk to fedex until tomorrow.

Rob_D.

Mailing system here is insane! They charge more than the cost of the stuff u send!! My fiance biught a laptop for my father but if fedex play that game, i would rather tell him keep the laptop there and we can buy from here....

Woah. It's good to hear that it was only in PHP lol. But since your fiance already got the package. Just don't pay the additional charges. Ditch them
