I definitely agree with the above poster! Find your gal a place where she can shop for stuff she likes. Imagine being in the Phil. and not being able to find american food... If there is a Costco nearby, get her a big bag of jasmine rice. The biggest bag available. For me, a 2lb bag of walmart rice will last me a year. For my gal, a 25lb. bag of rice might last her 1.5 month. Also, a rice cooker - at Walgreens it should cost less then $10.

Best of luck!

I bought a rice cooker about a year ago.... hehehe for making sushi but don't tell her that. secret7vf.gif

I found an Asian market and also a Filipino market near here. I think I will let her pick the rice, don't want the first night spent in the dog house. ranting33va.gif So I think I am good to go.

4. Find a Filipino grocery (if you are lucky) or a asian store. She will need a good rice. Buying rice in those plastic bags at wally mart or your local grocery is a BAD idea. Trust me, you will hear about it.

Gary speaks the truth..Don't welcome her to the home with Americanized rice. Dead serious , the rice is serious stuff

If you have a Sams go get this-Patriot is right. you better have rice when she hits the ground..in fact I would suggest having some KFC and rice stashed for the ride home..She is going to be hungry..

First day I brought the wife to the filipina store, bought her a 40 pound bag of rice at the asian store and a rice cooker. Just so that wasn't on her mind... Since she was a big fish and rice eater. Hell, now she eats everything..

You rookies don't think we are joking about the rice

I surprised her and made southern style rice about the second week--Rice and salt...It got ugly at my house.

Then the day i introduced her to GRITS...She replied..Yes we have that..Poor people eat that in the philippines.

Ya, rice cooker is very important.

The right kitchen gear MIGHT be important, if'n she knows how to cook.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Jasmine rice?? For a Filipina? As a decent substitute, when nothing else is available, perhaps. Medium-grain or short-grain rice only in this house. Long-grain Calrose or other American rice, only in an extreme emergency...

...hehehe...

Things to do before she arrives:

1. Get rid of the "hehehe" laugh because it's how Filipinas laugh. It's not a guy-thing.

2. Don't switch your laugh to "jijiji" because that's how a Filipina jejemon laughs.

Are you sure you are not half American? From your menu you eat like you have lived in the west. I like your choices as I like mushrooms with steak and steamed asparagus and omg love garlic.

My sweetie a few months ago gave up on rice (maybe once awhile but not every meal or everyday like before) she is like you and enjoys fruits and veggies (green leafy). Her children still eat rice so we will have it here.

BTW, have a safe trip and don't become a stranger here at VJ.
