Any time! I havent had my interview yet so im also waiding through the unknown but if you have any questions message me I will try my best to help

Well good luck for your interview! I'm sure there won't be any ploblems. My fiance is visiting me from the USA for two weeks in November and we are going around Europe for a week during her time here. I'm hoping that maybe I can have the visa by the time she comes. If that was to happen and I got the visa a few days before she arrived let's say, does the embassy keep your passport for a certain amount of time? Because obviously I'm going to need it.

If you already attached your photos it's okay. Don't need more. If you get Angry Asian Lady she may frown at you, but no big deal.

Photocopies--they are going to keep anything you turn in unless you provide them with a photocopy to file.

Things you want back for sure--birth certificate, divorce decrees, deed polls, military record, financial records, etc.

Things you don't need back because you have a copy at home or on the computer--I-134, Turbo tax printout of tax return,

Just don't hand in your only copy of something. Make a copy for your records of everything including the DS forms.

The financial proofs like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements can actually be photocopies. They aren't that fussy. An employer letter should be original.

Simple rule-- Ask yourself "Do I need this original important document given back to me after the interview"? If yes, provide a photocopy. The embassy does not need multiple copies of your personal documents for their purposes. They only need one for the file.

Ok thanks I'll definitely make photo copies of important stuff that I need to keep. How important is the letter off the employer? I have everything else from my fiance, bank statements, play slips from work, the I-134 and tax stuff. But I don't have a letter off her employer. Is that something I should get her to send me?

London will approve you on any one of those items. Having two is a good backup. You have three, so don't bother with an employer letter.

And yes, the embassy keeps your passport for a few days so they can stick the visa in it. It is returned by courier anywhere from 3 days to two weeks. No guarantees of how long it will take.

Well that's worrying. I want to get this visa asap but need my passport for a week in November. Should I request the interview to be after I have travelled in the cover letter?

You can go interview as scheduled and decide then if you have time to leave the passport. If not, you can tell the officer you have a trip planned. After the trip, send your passport to London for the visa. It used to be by DX courier, but they act like they don't do that anymore when you call them. So not sure now how that step is working.

Or if you get things rolling, request an interview that allows you to have you passport back in plenty of time for a November X trip to Europe. Tell them you will take a cancellation and are available on short notice. Get those forms in.

And these are very London specific things, so why aren't you posting in the UK forum?

Ok that's great to know that I can tell them I need my passport and send them it at a later date. Thanks! I didn't even know there was a UK forum?

Jump in and start reading and posting. Some changes two weeks ago that have people crazy. Don't get caught up in the hysteria. It will all settle down.

hey, it says in this form 'the following documents must be attached in order to apply for a fiancé non-immigrant visa' and has listed items such as birth certificate, police certificate, evidence of financial support, evidence of engagement' etc. but on the London embassy website it says to send in all the forms as step 1 but step two is to gather all those documents.

so when people sent the forms ds-230 part 1, ds-156, ds-156k and ds-157 to their embassy, did you include those items? or just take them to the interview?

This part of the k1 journey gets confusing. thanks.

i have sent all those Docs. with said forms, but every embassy has their own process, so better u call them n confirm...

You can't really call the London Embassy and get answers. The letter of instruction (aka Packet 3) from London says "do not send any documents to the embassy". That is 100% the way it is done in London. Forms are mailed. Documents are hand carried to the interview.

ok this is great information thanks! i'm just waiting on my police certificate to arrive. also I just noticed today that my birth certificate doesn't have my parents' names on it. so i'm gonna have to find out where to get one from. did you fiancé in the USA have to send you an intent to marry letter again? to just revalidate it?

Here's where you order your long form birth cert: https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate I think it's about £10?

Its just a tracker, tracks what the embassy are doing with your file. Just put your LND number in that box, do u know what ur LND number is? You would have given it to Knightsbridge for the medical
