The movie is about a black butler, who served in the White House for decades. It would seem expected that a black actor would play the title role. That is hardly pulling the race card, unless of course one should wish to make a similar sophomoric comparison to Schindler's List: A Jewish director pulling the 'Jewish' card in a movie about the treatment of Jews during WWII.

In the end, a movie is just another financial initiative.

After all the movie boasts a cast of unknown actors, such as Forest Whitaker, Vanessa Redgrave, Cuba Gooding Jr., Robin Williams, Jane Fonda, John Cusack and Oprah herself. In addition the subject matter is one that is not captivating in the least, especially if you consider the huge failure of 'The Help' a couple of years ago. It is, indeed, very much likely it would have flopped had Oprah not been in the news lately. No chance a movie like that would have made on its own... (rolling eyes...)

I absolutely loved they cast Jane Fonda to play Nancy Reagan. That alone would be worth the cost of admission to see the movie!

I don't believe you can charge her - or anyone else, for that matter - with treason for speaking her mind. The First Amendment would afford her that right. I always thought she bore a resemblance to Nancy, as of lately, and I maintain she was cast perfectly. It will be interesting to watch the motley crew seethe and heave were she to be nominated for - yet again - and win - once more - an Academy Award for this role. That would be priceless.
