We will get married the first week I arrive out there and I already have a social security number from a previous job out there so how long do you think my permission to work would take?

Yup, 2-3 months, maybe a bit more, depending on where you are based.

Oh no, god knows how I'm gona afford to survive out there, I'm saving but I won't have more than about $3000 as I still have bills here to pay. Dans on a modest wage and says he's happy to support me but iv always been independent and paid for everything myself since I was about 16 so I'm just not that comfortable with it :( ah well we'll be together even if we are living on ramen noodles lol

Don't forget your adjustment of status and work authorization application costs $1070, so don't spend all your $3000. And start thinking married--- it is OUR money. Share through thick and thin.

Keep in mind the economy here still is bad... it may well take you more than 3 months to find a job anyways, depending on your skills and where you will live.

you can work when you have EAD or greencard in hand, whichever comes first.

How to get one of those? File the Big Adjustment of Status paperwork.

Once filed, the clock starts ticking - it's about 80 to 110 days from filing, till EAD card in hand.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I lived out there for 18 months on a student visa so luckily I have a lot of contact and for half of half of that time I worked and luckily it looks like my employer there can squeeze me in for a while til I find a full time job so I'm not really worried about the finding of the job just the permission. I found the job situation very similar to uk and i have no ego with jobs, I will literally take anything so where my friends would take about a year to find a job here within weeks I'd be doing cleaning jobs or working in fast food chains etc
