Well it will slow down not because of the USCIS but because of FBI name checks etc... The USCIS makes use of different agencies. The USCIS themselves are paid for fully by our fees so would not be subject to the budget sequester but that doesn't mean the other agencies aren't.

No, I do not think Canadians are treated any differently at the USCIS stage. The petition is based completely off a genuine relationship and the petitioner. They may do some quick checks into a beneficiary, but if they did all their checks at that point, AP wouldn't exist. At the NVC and consulate stage Canadians have it easier than most countries, especially multi-generational Canadians who do not work in a field that may be considered a threat to national security. I felt my interview was more of a formality than anything else. The US government is fully aware of all the enemies they have in the world, more so than probably any other country. National security is a huge deal.

Suggest you keep trying with the tier 2 - I suspect that they have to go to multiple systems to locate your file. The reason I believe this is two-fold - tier 2 reps had to put me on hold while they looked up information on our file. Also, when I went to the local office the IO went into two systems to check status (I asked him a lot of questions and he was very open about their challenges).

My understanding is that most files are being sent to local offices. Until you can get a confirmation about the office location it makes no sense to schedule an Infopass appointment. Once you've confirmed the location of the file and assuming it is at a local office go - be polite and professional but persistent. The I-130 supervisor is the critical person in the process. You need to get the IO to somehow speak to the supervisor.

I have spoken to a tier-2 IO's manager. You can request that if you feel the tier 2 isn't responsive. Call early in the day because you are likely going to have to wait for a call back and they shut down at 5 PM I believe. I've spent hours on hold only to abandon the call because 5 PM came and went.

Try your senator or congressional rep.

Do some digging on the site and you'll find plenty of people who have been thru this. Take advantage of their experience and good luck!

hello everybody

my fiance called a tier 2 yesterday and he advised her the following

processing time for I130 takes 5 - 8 months and we should hear something by September as we filed our petition in Jan 14 and advised that our file will stay at NBC where they will make the decision about our petition.

how sure should we believe this information ?

does anyone have similar feedback from Tier 2 ?

please help with any possible info regarding my matter.

thank you in advance

based on your timeline you should have heard something already. ask to speak to a supervisor- the timeline on this sit was the best tool we had while we were waiting.
