It's so good but it's so hard for me to eat because I know how bad the fries are and I know how bad the mayo is so dipping fries in mayo is simply sinful!

Oh I need some reccomendations on good mayo. Not best foods or kraft, something more creamy .

Any ideas?

All over Germany it's very common to eat fries with mayo.

In fast food places you can order "pommes rot weiß" which translates to "fries red white" (eg with ketchup and mayo).

As to good mayonaise: Have you tried making it yourself? I've tried it once and it was way better than all the stuff from the store. Not very convenient though :hehe:

yes I do make it myself but I'm sure there are some good ones I can buy when I am too lazy to make it. Jenn told me about Cains I think but I can't find it here...

how do you make it? I usually do egg yolk and vegetable oil with a little garlic and salt and pepper and sometimes a tiny bit of dijon mustard.

When I came to Europe in general, I was shocked by how much mayo they poured over french fries. I thought I might have to get them little water wings to keep them from drowning. Blech. Maybe a little on the side, but not poured all over them.

I don't use a lot of mayo, but I certainly like mayo with my fries and have since someone suggested it way back when. I think it was my brother when he came back from Europe. When I first visited Harry in the Netherlands, I think he was surprised to see me eat them that way, and now my friends here look at me and say 'You really have turned European haven't you?' ... No? I always ate them that way.

Wonderful combination but oh so fattening, so it's a "yearly" treat

Yep, that's the basic recipe- I use a teaspoon of mustard, every now and then I use olive oil to give it a stronger flavor, I like to add a little garlic or cayenne pepper, and sometimes a drop of lemonjuice... all depends on what I'm eating it with... yumm, now I'm hungry :)
