So I had my medical in Knightsbridge on 12th July, I hadn't heard back from them or the Embassy which I took to be a good thing, so I sent off my DS-2001 and covering letter but it has been a month now with nothing happening. I didn't think I had to pay the Visa fee right away so I was waiting until my appointment came through.

I read on the Embassy's site that there were changes recently and it refers me to usvisa-info.com which I registered with, but I'm not finding anything helpful on there. Trying to add myself as a new applicant prompts me to fill out some details, one of which asks for ds160 number. I don't know what that is. K1 is also not present on the Visa class dropdown.

I'm just a bit anxious because it's been a while and nothing has happened, my fiancée and I were hoping to marry in November which I wrote in my covering letter, and I'm seeing through people's timelines that people who had medicals weeks after mine already have appointment dates for their visa so I'm wondering if there is something else I am supposed to do that I've not already done or if it's just bad luck.

Many people wait 4 weeks from when the last thing arrived in London. It sounds like that was your DS-2001.

With a November wedding, they won't be rushing to get you in before October if there are others with sooner dates

It sounds like you are in the non-immigrant section of the payment system. Your appointment letter will include a link to read this further information about your interview. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/unitedkingdom/164203/cons-visa/IV019_fiance_appt_letter.pdf

The instruction on how to pay using the new system are in that.

That's unfortunate. I thought they'd take into account wedding planning and stuff. I hoped to be there and help out with those things, things like wedding bands can take time from what I recall of my brother's wedding.

I don't suppose there's anything I can do about it now that I've said November?

I wanted to be ready to leave around September so we'd have plenty of time to get things done, be there for her Birthday on 1st October, wrap things up then have our wedding, but I figured if I wrote that in my letter they'd think I was being greedy.

Don't worry about the DS-160 form, you don't need that for the K1 visa. I waited about about a month for an interview which i had on the 2nd August, they have a backlog of interviews to organise right now so i think they are just taking a while so i wouldn't worry,i have the same thing but actually waiting for my visa documents to come through,it's taking longer than it should.

You had your interview on the 2nd, but still have not received your visa? I thought it only took a few days. I have my interview on the 9th September, and had hoped to travel two weeks after. looks like I might have to wait a while longer.

Yes I had it on Friday 2nd and still haven't received it but I've noticed most people get it within 6 days. I have no idea why mine is taking so long and they said to me at the interview it would take 2-3 working days and i haven't heard anything. My status on the CEAC website is "Ready" yet i've already had the interview. You might be absolutely fine,as i say mine is taking longer than most others it seems. :(

I had my medical on the 9th July and until yesterday was feeling the same as you. We plan to wed in October but wanted time to plan it all first.

On Saturday I used the contact form on the embassy's website and asked why I hadn't heard anything yet and said that I wanted to be in the states soon. I got a reply yesterday asking if I could attend an interview today.

I'm not sure how you would approach explaining that you want to be there sooner now that you've told them November, but if you can think of something it might be worth contacting them.

The delay is almost certainly because of the later wedding date; I was the same in the second half of 2011 (putting a much later date to get married) and heard nothing. After I contacted them I received an e-mail back stating exactly that reason. I then simply mentioned I'd prefer an earlier (or any! Hah) appointment because of wedding planning and the next e-mail I received was confirmation of a new - and fairly early - appointment.

There's that smell again...

Thanks, that's reassuring. I was just hoping to make it out there some time in September so I had time to help out with the wedding plans and not just jump right into the wedding.

Yes I think we all assume it shouldn't take that long we expect it sooner rather than later and the embassy send out such misleading messages. I have my wedding ceremony booked late October but I may contact the embassy to tell them i'm desperate to book my flight and for my family to know what they are doing and everyone else involved as it has a knock-on effect on us all. The plan was for me to join my fiance in September too so i can help with preparations but i think because i stated to them i plan to marry later this year they are taking their time with it.
