Wow you got off easy!

*chuckles* I guess so. My parents have generously offered to pay for the wedding, donated rings, and such. We'll see, of course. A lot of that is just estimates on things as ... well we're still in the process.

Totally depends on how your case proceeds. Ours hasn't gone smoothly at all and with attorney fees, flights, filing fees, repeated EAD applications, etc. we have spent close to the tune of $75,000!

The answer to your question "how much is this going to cost" is like asking "how long is a piece of string".

That's a lot of flights.

Actually, I have only been home once in four years! My daughter has been home three times and my son can't even leave the country at the moment, for fear of not being allowed back in.

Most of our costs arose from attorney fees. Six EAD's between us, cost of travel to the District Office - 10 hour round trip, God knows how many times.

When you take into account the time we have all had to take off work and the loss of income, the figure would be much higher.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

"Don't worry- you just pay as you go. You don't have to be a millionarire to bring your fiance over"

I'd have to say that what sakurasama said (above) is perfect. No one is asking us to spend too much all at one time.

You have to cut costs wherever you can as far as hotels, phone plans, etc. but not on other things. I have spent thousands of dollars so far (and our I-129F was just approved). The best spent money of my life!

It's so much better to spend Christmas/New Years and my long summers (I'm a teacher) with the love of my life than working to save up.

Don't listen to anyone who says "if you have to ask, you can't afford it." This country is not based on that kind of thinking and as of 2006 the reality is that this process can be affordable.

Necessary expenses: K1 (currently $170)

Medical exam and interview expenses (a few hundred dollars completely depending on what beneficiary's insurance covers and what country you're in)

Then there are travel expenses. (Beneficiary to interview location, then to U.S.)

AOS will cost at least $500.

But there are two people paying here, and the expenses are spread out over time.

Hey Manmiles,

If you didn't get the idea from all of these posts, you need to be more specific about your case and what you are talking about. The fees are easy to find, but they change from time to time. If you use an attorney that will involve more costs. So, if you really want some help, start with the guides and figure out what you need and what you don't know. Then you will be surprised at how much help you will get here.

You've already been given some ideas of the fees, but you must realize that there are always more costs involved in any legal action. That is what you are talking about. Also, you should consider that this will continue off and on for about 2 1/2 years from when you first apply. The fees aren't the problem for most everyone, it's the other stuff that troublesome.

So, take your time. Consider what you really need to know and ask us again.

And the travel expenses to meet your fiance(e) within 2 years of filing.

If you think anyone can do this because "This country is not based on that kind of thinking" you're not living in the real world.

If you don't include any travel fees or things of that nature we mailed our I-129F last week and have spent about $300 so far! This figure includes the $170 filing fee, getting passport photos done, photocopies made, and mailing costs to get the petition to USCIS.

Good Luck!! And like someone else mentioned, while it is expensive, it can be done I think! And again, I'm sure it's totally worth it!!!!!!

I did a count... and this includes two trips...but I stayed in her Flat.. this also includes estimates to finish up the Visa her Flight...birthdays...Christmas..etc.., the whole shebang :) hhaha about $7000 but you have to remember...I didn't pay it out in one day.. these are the cost..for about 1.5 years of cell bills too.. this all the cost that it took to get my Precious Love her... and Honestly... it's really Priceless...

the only big cost you have at one time is the trips to see her....the rest comes out monthly..

My fiancee and I aren't the richest of people, but we want to be together and she'll get an Affaidant of Support off her parents.

But how much is this whole shebang going to cost us to get through it and be together?

Hi There Mo!

We have had to employ the services of two attorneys, to date. The first one set us back several thousand dollars and did NOTHING! Most of his fees were for "research". We are a little more understanding of the INA etc now and realise that a lot of his "research" was totally off! So, we got rid of him. The new attorney is relatively inexpensive, as attorneys go, but it is still a lot of money we could have done without spending. If only the USCIS did their job properly in the first place, we wouldn't have had to spend anywhere near what we have done.

Our family totals 4, but the costs we have incurred have been over 4.5 years, and continue to grow.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

GREAT ANSWER! :)

To the OP:

These are the costs as far as the government fees go, the rest depends on just how much you want to spend - hehe. I've been trying to keep myself busy in the mean time (waiting) by remodeling my whole house! Add to that all my trips to Thailand, up-coming wedding costs, bringing her and her daughter here... and .... I'd rather not say!
