When working retail, people coming in five minutes to close were my biggest pet peeve. They'd get sh*tty service from me most of the time.

But in this economy would you shun anyone willing to buy a $38K bag from your store? The commission alone would probably be worth the sales person's rent for a couple of months!

exactly...This is a perfect example...everything is racist to Marvin.store clerks suggesting a bag might be too much after the store is closed,,rodeo clowns wearing an Obama mask, etc etc.

So if he ever does point out something really racist we will be ---YAWN!

This is the exact reason,as he complains some people throw away resumes with names like Kenesha, Kantika ,Jarvilllo etc

1. It does label them. Sorry but just like many of you said about face tatto's people that name kids stuff like that are labeling them.

2. Just like Marvin here..everything is racist to many of them, they get in the work place and the first time a non-black worker gets anything they don't get or they get written up ..Here come the cries of racism. People just don't want the hassle

So by naming your kid Jamal you're labling him as what? Black? Hate to break it to you, but that first interview is going to show that when they walk through the door. If people can name their kids Pilot Inspector, Apple, Kia Sophia, Moonbeam, then Jamal, Kenesha shouldn't ramp up some scary black person memory.

And once again, you can't claim racism without proof. If it was that easy, I'd be rich like Oprah. I've seen plenty of folks cry racism when they are late, poor work ethics. And I tell them, show up on time, do the job right, maybe you can keep a job. Those folks don't make up the rest of us.

Thank you. Someone actually said maybe they didn't want to sell the bag to her. I can't figure out why this would be the case. They only time you would barter down is if the customer says it's too expensive and asks to see something less pricey.

I highly doubt that. It seems like that's what that store sells. I'm sure they do just fine.

I see your point, but why would Oprah make up such a story if it were not true and be so specific about the details?

She needs to sell her movie.

That was my point in another thread. Who wants to deal with that? And I don't want to hear B.S. about needing something credible to sue someone. This country's entire civil litigation system is based on frivolous lawsuits. Just turn on your TV any afternoon or late at night. It's constant stream of lawyer commercials going on about them being able to get you the best settlement. It has nothing to do with having an actual viable case or not.

She needs to sell her movie.

Considering that Oprah's net worth is a bit over 9 figures, something tells me if this bombs she will be ok.

http://www.forbes.com/profile/oprah-winfrey/

Despite a drop of more than half her income since her talk show went off the air in 2012, the queen of entertainment is back in the top spot thanks to earnings from Harpo-produced TV spin-offs (Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray, The Dr. Oz Show), as well as her unparalleled access. The world's only African-American billionaire has attracted stars from Lance Armstrong to Rihanna for sit-down confessionals on her OWN network, a joint venture with Discovery Communications which looks set to turn a profit by the end of 2013. Winfrey's portfolio also includes a deal with Sirius radio network and O: The Oprah Magazine.

I named quite a few folks that are millionaires who don't have security when they travel overseas. If Oprah had her detail with her, don't you think the sales clerk would have thought, maybe this woman is somoene important?

You said poor customer service. If you want to take racism out of it, I'd call it plain rude.

you named noone with the fame or money of oprah winfrey. it was rude. rude of oprah to come after closing & rude of the sales lady trying to rush her out the door.

How many billionaires do you know the travel plans of ?

none. but, i watch E! occasionally when my wife makes me.

Interesting purseblog below concerning treatment of customers in Hermes stores. Notice all the comments are pre-Oprah incident.

Oprah's life story is insanely impressive when you take the time to read it. I was never a fan, but damn, this woman has done amazing things for herself.

You don't like O because she is black do you?

can you prove they are not black!

Here is the real truth..Ophrah is use to special treatment..She got the same snobby treatment any regular joe might have gotten coming in after closing and , got her A list feelings hurt.

Ophrah has about as much in common with the plight of the avg black as I do space dust.

She should be ashamed of playing the race card, while living her privileged life

She probably hurt blacks more than she helped, cause she just added another log to the, "we have had enough of race absurdity" BS

I am sure she wanted to sell the bag. She made a terrible miscalculation when she presumed the woman on the other side of the counter was not in a position to purchase such an expensive item and therefore was not worth the trouble of her removing it from the shelf. I am sure it had nothing to with Oprah's skin color. wink.png

I meant commission to the sales person...

She needs to sell her movie.

Oprah needs to sell her movie as desperately as Apple needs investors to buy their shares....

My point is that there is a 120 page forum dedicated to "Treatment in Hermes Stores" 119 of the pages are "pre-Oprah." 120 f*ing pages. Why is that? I bet you couldn't find a 120 page forum on people that sell Big Macs.

This isn't about lawsuits without merit. Racial discrimination is alive and real at the work place. Folks that sue have evidence to prove it, look up the Wet Seal case I posted a while back. You can't get more clear than that. No lawyer would go to court in a case when racism is the charge without proof. This is why you keep every single document that deals with your employment, you show up early, work hard, do the right thing. My mother drilled into my head, be 15 minutes early, never complain about working late, don't give them a reason to fire you, being black is reason enough.

Yes I do, you know as well as I do when something is posted here about black people the stereotypes go flying. Single moms, blacks commit 90% crime, more violent. Espically for those folks who don't know how it is, I have to be there so my folks don't get raked over the coals.
