In regard to these two threads in the Mexico/Latin/South American subforum, see man:

Hi, I'm from Peru

Brasileiritchas

Is there a reason as to why they're pinned, or a history behind it? Why these two countries and not others instead or in addition?

I've been curious for 6 years, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Probably because someone asked for it and the mods at the time agreed :)

Is there threads from other countries that lend themselves to pinning?

Yeah, in the UK forum there were two that were pinned (not anymore for some odd reason) - NichNick's NOA2-Interview thread and the Knightsbridge Medical thread. But as I say, recently those seem to have been unpinned.

The OP of one of the threads requested it to be unpinned since information has changed and requested a review of the other thread which showed that much of the information was out of date and no longer applicable, so could lead to misinformation and confusion. That one was also unpinned.

If someone wishes to provide updated threads on those topics they are welcome to do so.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

To be fair, it should be all countries or none, si and no man. If those two threads were unpinned, they'd float where they belonged on the basis of demand, as (for example) the Colombian threads do. I have no dog in this fight, but I think that it's strange for two threads of any "generic country discussion" kind to be pinned there.

When the Caribbean subforum was broken off from Latin America, no country threads were pinned there.

My life's dream is to see the "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" thread pinned in Embassy/Consulate, but I can see why it might not be. If it were pinned, it would be as valuable there as the one pinned thread in the Caribbean forum is for the Dominicans.

A couple of years ago, I suggested that all pinned threads in all forums be reviewed for accuracy and relevance. There are some truly ancient ones hanging around. The idea was received favorably (by Admiral Ewok, too), but the job was too big for me: I was uncertain how to proceed, and no one offered guidance.

Many pinned threads would definitely benefit from clean-up, such as the removal of commentary posts within them ("This is great!"). It would be tedious for me or anyone to compile a list ("In pinned thread ___, we might remove posts #2, #5 through #13, #17...") to send to the moderators, who in turn might lack the time to delete posts on a wholesale basis. I'm clueless on how tedious that job would be.

At any rate, I'd like to hear:

1) Whether the two Latin American threads can be unpinned;

2) whether other pinned threads can be cleaned up by removing posts; or, if not,

3) whether other pinned threads can at least be reviewed for accuracy and relevance.

Thanks for continuing input, si man.
