Aloha!

We are at the phase of needing a civil surgeon to review Joan's vaccination forms and fill out our I-693. We spent the morning calling around to the CSs listed on the USCIS site and got some wildly different responses about costs and what was required. Two doctor's offices flatly stated that she would need a new medical (one said that they would not sign off on another doctor's exam). The fees were all over the place and no one said that it was covered under insurance. The least expensive was $125.00 but a blood test ($70.00) might be needed to see if Joan was immunized against measles (?). The additional vaccination would cost $185.00 (so a potential total of $380.00!!!). HELP!! Does anyone have any recent experiences in Honolulu that might guide us to the best source?

Noticed that your post was from August, so I'm just checking to see what ended up happening.

I am also in Honolulu and about to start finding a civil surgeon who doesn't charge an arm and a leg, and who can make the process as quick and easy as possible. Any suggestions?

Mahalo!

I just have to update my answer by saying that I went to a civil surgeon in Honolulu, and I would NOT recommend anyone going there. His name is Dr. Lawrence K. Tam.

The doctors office was dirty, old, very creepy experience and as woman I was straight up terrified. Anyone can message me for a more detailed explanation.

Cost was $150, however I needed a blood test for chicken pox so that was $25 extra. Received the additional vaccinations that I needed from my regular doctor.

Forgive me if this not relevant to your case, but I heard that if your vaccination record is done properly in the medical before the interview back home then seeing a Civil Surgeon here in the US is not a requirement for the AOS. Somebody correct me if I am wrong here. Might save you money if this is indeed relevant to your case.

I also went to that same Dr. in early October and had the same experience. VERY weird, and his teeth, OMG! I just prayed. I got charged the same plus the cost for X-ray, I think $40, and I was quite surprise when he said he had to do an exam of the private area. I just had to cough but still, I never had to do that before. It weirded me out but I was comfortable with the nurse there. I did the tetanus and another shot on base. It's weird because I had a medical exam done before but it had expired so I needed another one done. My first civil surgeon in a walk-in clinic Waikiki charged almost $400 but it was a smoother process. I called them and I asked if they would just fill the form out again since they had done the entire exam before (minus the private area exam & minus x-Ray) and had everything on record and I also had a printout of the filled out 693 for my records, but they wanted to still charge me another $400.
