(CNN) -- Oh the irony. An Ohio man was shot in the arm. At a gun safety class.

Michael Piemonte was attending a concealed-carry class with his wife Alison in central Ohio's Fairfield County over the weekend. Such classes are required for anyone wanting carry a concealed weapon in the state.

There were 29 students in the lecture-type class, Piemonte said. He was sitting in the front row.

While the instructor was demonstrating a self-defense techniques, the gun went off.

The bullet struck Piemonte in the arm. Even he didn't realize what had happened.

"Everyone was in shock," he told CNN. "It took me a couple of seconds to realize that I had been shot."

The 26-year-old said he's in good spirits. "I'm just glad my wife did not get hit."

The instructor did not return a call for comment, but Piemonte said he has been calling him regularly to check in.

"It makes me feel good that he is so concerned," he said.

The Fairfield County sheriff's deputy who responded to the scene described the shooting as accidental, The Columbus Dispatch newspaper reported. Piemonte doesn't have a gun yet, but was planning to get one this year. He still plans on doing so.

"It was the first time I've been shot," he said. "And hopefully the last."

So what? Here is a driving instructor accused of rape who died in a car accident on the way to court.

Swimming instrutor drowns

Safety education redces accidents, it does not eliminate them. Hopefully some people would undersatd that

Because it perfectly illustrates how stupid laws that make people feel safer really are. "Well, you have to take a class to get your license. They dont just hand it out to anyone."

Approved by the government.

They do in Vermont and our accident rate is lower than Ohio.

The only thing it illustrates is how lax the requirements and skill levels are when it comes to who can have weapons. These low level of requirements and skill levels are brought to you by the NRA and gun nutters everywhere.

I don't think a disregard for public safety is funny at all, seems you do.

In Vermont ANYone can carry concealed...anyone over age 16. SIXTEEN! Our accident rate and crime rate are far lower than your state's. You want to tell me what WE are doing wrong?

Get a clue. Try posyting about something you have knowledge of.

Perhaps post the accident rates for states with instruction for concealed carry and states without. That would be a start. Otherwise it is more "out the @ss" talk by ignorant people. Very easy to do,

Vermont offers firearms safety training in publlc schools recently expanded by our Liberal Democrat,NRA A+ rated governor. Maybe you should try it in your state.

Typical fucktards

No, it actually shows the clout that organizations like the NRA have. Legislators have to settle for toothless measures like this with useless guidelines.

Links to accident rates in states with and without training requirements would help your statement be more than ignorant babble.

Some states issue concealed carry permits without training, some states have no concealed carry permits and allow people to carry guns concealed with no permit. There are 5 states that do that. Do you know which ones? Do you know which require training and which don't? Do you have any knowledge of the subject about which you are speaking?

so following your "theory" if one can call it that, the states that do not require training will have higher rates of accidents than states that do require training. This will be very easy to prove since all firearms accidents are required to be reported to police. You will easily be able to show us those rates and make a valid comparison.

Now I am not an opponent of safety training for anything...but the fact is that very few people go to the store the first time and buy a gun, then decide to carry concealed whether a permit is needed or not. Concealed carry courses tend to be very light on safety (you are supposed to know that already) and heavy on the laws of when you can use deadly force (good idea). People desiring to carry conceald handguns usually have a long history of use, training and familiarity with firearms.

But by all means, I welcome your evidence that anything you say means sh*t regarding this issue.

The NRA does not establish training courses for concealed carry by states. Those rules are eastablished by the states themselves and vary widely.

We await your further presentation.

In some states yes, but not all states. That's where the problem lies.

You have no clue what the "problem" is or where it lies. You have virtually no knowledge of this subject but feel free to offer "comments".You have absolutely no knowledge of which states require what or what the result of those requirements have been. You have no knowledge of gun laws throughout the US. You are talking totally from iignorance of the subject.

Attach some data to back up your statements.

Incidentally, there is an actual term for this used to describe this tacti in debate. It is called "arguing from ignorance"

It is most often used by believers in things such as "bigfoot" and "Champ, the Lake Monster". It is two clicks below the typical comparisons used by Trekkies to associate everything bad with Klingons.

The NRA is effective with legislators because they offer facts and data to support their arguments.

Try it sometime

You live amongst farm animals in VT, not people. How many cows carry concealed weapons or try to rob the local gas station. Vermont and your endless dribble about concealed carry is irrelevant. I know that's hard for you to accept, but it's true. Vermont has nothing to do with the reality of gun violence. Heck I could lock myself in a bunker for the rest of my life and claim that I have no gun violence in the bunker, that's Vermont. Go milk a cow nitwit.

I'm not the one who pointed out how lax the requirements are to be an instructor for gun courses, slim is. My response was to his statement. I don't need to supply links to anything. Point your mindless chatter at slim, where it belongs. Did you even attempt to read the thread before talking out your ####### yet again?
