How did the F2A category all of a suddend become is current? The last year they were working on 2 1/2 years ago, and just last month they were working on Sept 1, 2011. Has something change that I didn't hear about?

I just looked because I got a request for additional information saying that they needed a legiable copy of birth certificate. I know the copy that I send with the I-130 was legiable. I have it right here with me. Why would they say its not legiable? But I looked at the priority dates becaue I wasn't expecting to hear anything from the I-130 for another year or so. It is a perminent resident applying for minor child. Has something changed? We mailed in the I-130 this February.

PS the current processing date for the I-130 for this category is October 4, 2010.

USCIS moves the PD in anticipation of how many people in a particular category will qualify for visas.

These are not actual numbers - they are only for a example.

For F2a: there are 80,000 visas available. USICS moves the PD so 100,000 people can apply for visa. For whatever reason, not all of them will apply for visas or will be denied for visas. So, only 60,000 visas are used. This means 20,000 visas were wasted. USCIS is now moving the PD so that the 20,000 visas are not wasted. Once that number of visas is used up, then USCIS will start moving the PD back (retrogression).
