Arranging interview/medical with only 2 days off work (including flights)

Hey everyone

I am from Calgary, so I am trying to figure out my interview/medical arrangements. The problem is I only have 2 days off from work, and I am reading that the medical is only available after 4PM the day after it is completed.

So how do other people do this? Suck it up and take a 3rd day off work? Or are there other ways to get this done ie. can they mail the medical results to the consulate, or deliver it later? Or other ideas? I really don't want to have to fly out twice!

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I don't quite know what your plan is, are you planning on having your medical and interview in one trip?

You will have to wait until after 4pm the next day to pick up your medical, no exceptions. They will not mail the medical to you, if you are unable to pick up the results; you can have someone else pick up the results for you (you will need to fill out a form giving said person permission to do so- also they will need to provide id in order to pick up the results). If you don't know anyone who lives in the lower mainland of bc, you'll have to pick up the results yourself and either take a 3rd day off from work, or schedule another trip for your interview. And Dr. Cheema's office will not schedule your medical until you have an interview scheduled (I thought that part was a bit strange).

So if you are planning on doing the medical/interview in one go, you'll need to take 3 days off from work.

Good luck!

I have some friends in the Vancouver area, so could I have one of them pick it up and drop it off at the consulate after my interview? Will the consulate then use the results to process my visa, and mail it out to me when it is ready?

Thanks

When they get around to it. It's really not a quick way of doing it. Personally I'd just take another day off work, after all you'll be moving soon anyhow :D

How long do you think it would take? I plan on moving at the end of September, and looks like the interview would be scheduled for mid September.

Well to be honest, I quit when I went to my medical and interview. Because I am a CR1 I had to do my interview in Montreal. I decided to do my medical at that time as well and in Montreal it takes 3 days to get the medical back (did it tuesday, got results friday) and then my interview was on a Monday. I came home, packed, was joined by hubs on sat, and we left the next Monday. All in all, I was gone a week after my interview because I was lucky and received the visa packet the day after. I don't know how long it takes to get the packet from Vancouver. I actually gave my notice at my work and my appt when I found out the interview date. However I made sure that all my bills and rent would be paid for the month that I left.

But if the medical takes 2 days, you can have your interview on the 3rd day, go back and give your notice if you haven't already.

I hope they're GOOD friends, cuz it's no joke trying to get to Dr. Cheema's freaking office. It took me 2 hours from downtown. I hate Surrey.

Take the extra day off - if everything doesn;t go according to plan , as things tend to do, you may need that extra time - it's only 1 day and honestly if it all goes well and you're approved you'll be going back to work to give your notice anyway. I would NOT quit before you have your approval (counting chickens before they hatch etc...)....people have done that before only to be disappointed when the consulate doesn;t approve them right away.

Good luck

What i did, certainly isn't recommended. Thankfully I know I would've been hired back or been able to get a new job asap. But I'm glad I did it the way I did since I didn't have to wait another month to move. I'll be honest, I wasn't worried about the interview, folly or not. Dunno why but it worried me the least of everything!

I had my dad pick up the medical for me the next day because I had a surprise planed for my fiancés birthday (I had a trip planned for months, so I wasn't about to cancel it). Even though my dad knows the surrey area well (born and raised in Vancouver), he missed the office as it's tucked in a bit. It also took a while to get there (myself and my dad).

I would take the third day off and schedule the medical/interview together, I think it would overall be less stressful and easier on you. Then you can sit back, relax and anxiously wait for your visa (I'm waiting for mine now, and it feels like noa2 all over again lol).

Oh, and you'll need to bring the medical packet with you to the interview, so having a friend bring it after won't work (security won't let you into the consulate without the sealed medical packet).

Cheers!

I vote for taking off a 3rd day.
