Successful Early Walk-in Biometrcis but no EAD Card Yet. Why

Hi everyone,

I received my biometrics appointment letter on Saturday July 27th with a date scheduled for August 16th. I didn't want to wait that long for my biometrics appointment and decided to take my chances on an early walk-in. I was very nervous since early walk-ins are at the complete discretion of each USCIS center and some centers allow it and some don't. So on Monday July 29th (18 days before my appointment date) I picked up my letter and my passport and drove to the USCIS center in Alexandria VA. I really didn't want to get in the building because I was afraid that walking in early was going to piss them off and somehow jeopardize my application.

I walked in anyways and tried to look confident. At the security check station this lady asked for my appointment letter and my ID and gave me a form and a clipboard with a pen to fill it up. I filled the form out and gave it to the receptionist who in return gave me a number to wait in line. There were literally 9 people waiting to take their biometrics. After 5 minutes or so this lady (Hispanic) came to help me and we spoke Spanish till the end of the procedure. The biometrics it self took about 10 minutes since our machine didn't seem to be working properly but at the end everything was fine.

I'm not encouraging everybody to run to the USCIS office and do the early walk-in, I'm just telling you my own experience with the local center in Alexandria VA. They were very nice and very efficient with me.

I've read on places over the internet that doing your biometrics early has sped up the process of obtaining the Employment Authorization card.

It's been 2 weeks now and I still haven't gotten my EAD card. Why is that? I know it may take up to 3 months but so many people have gotten theirs so much earlier. Should I be worried about it?

How long did it take for you to receive your EAD card??

P.S. My lawyer says I have a very strong case.

Thank you

Early biometrics or not, the timeline remains the same> 2-3 months after filing.

This is spot on. There have been other posts about early walk-ins, I commented my experience in speaking with both the guard and the technician, they explained what happens, was told that even though you maybe early the system is set in a que fashion according to your scheduled bio date, in other words even though you did an early walk-in and your information (finger prints and photo) was gathered on July 27th the system is holding the information and will forward and release the bio info for processing on or about your scheduled August 16th date.

I don't know if that is the case - see the 61st post in this thread. There biometrics appt was scheduled for today but they did an earlier walk-in and their status was updated yesterday to 'testing and interview':

Perhaps the exception and not the rule. Go figure, it's all a cat and mouse game anyway!

I gotcha. Yeah it really makes sense what you're saying. I really suspected that was the case anyways. Thank you for the reply.

OMG that's exactly what happened to me, I swear. My biometrics appt was scheduled for today but I did it an early walk-in 2 weeks ago and just about yesterday my AOS status changed to "Testing and Interview." That's so awesome. Even though I still don't have any EAD card.

What do you think that means? ( I read the text on the USCIS website explaining what it means) I just wanna know what you think.

thanks
