Should we get married in the States or Brazil?

I just talked to a friend who went through the k-1 process and she told me she only had her visa in hand to fly to the US 8 months from the date they first filed the documents to USCIS. This is so disheartening... Rod and I have never been apart for more than 3 months... ever. Because he just started a new job, he won't have vacation to visit me during this period.

So, I have a question... while the k1 is being processed, would I be able to visit him with my tourist visa? Please say yes...

Yes. You can still visit.

As always, your entrance is up to the officer on the desk. They may wish to see some evidence that you won't be staying, so always travel with a return ticket and maybe a letter from your employer expecting you home, or some details about your home etc. (to show strong home ties).

Most folks visit with little bother.

When my fiancé visited me right before we got engaged (and hadn't filed the K1 yet) he had some hassle getting into the country. It wasn't bad, just the officer stated that he couldn't be in the US if we file the K1 and during the wait. My fiancé luckily had paper saying this is untrue and was let in the country.

Ok... Now I'm confused. So your fiancé was able to come in because he hadn't yet filed for the K1. So... What the officer said is correct? Once you file and you are waiting for the process to go through, you are not allowed in as a tourist even if you are only going to visit and leave the country? What paper was your fiancee carrying that contradicted this?

Thank you!

You can visit while the K1 is in process but may have issues at the border, especially if the officer doesn't understand the K1 process. As lost_at_sea says, just bring things to show you will go back/strong ties to your country. I don't remember what my fiancé had or where he got it but it said travel while doing K1 is allowed. Saying you are visiting your fiancé/doing K1 just sets off a flag for the officer and you will probably face more scrutiny.
