Missouri Fair clown draws criticism for Obama mask

Since this topic would not be complete without my take on it, let me wade in.

This incident has two angles.

1 mocking the President.

This was right inline with SNL or any other Lefts version of fun and from that angle alone it was perfectly fine.

Where it went wrong was, it was done at a State fair. State fairs are not really the place for such partisan jabs, at least not to the level this one was.

Had this been done at the local J&K rodeo, it would have been acceptable.... at a State fair, it was over the line. (the Announcers part anyway)

2. Trying to drag a racial component into every incident is tiring and it would seem more and more people are growing weary of it.

If this were Obama leaving office, would it be blamed on racism?

Um, there's a difference between mocking and wishing ill or grave bodily harm on a person. Now if you show me a SNL clip of them saying they wanted Obama or GWB dead or something of the like your logic might have merit.

First of all, the problem wasn't the mask. If the clown ran out there and did his job with an Obama mask on, there wouldn't have been a issue. Last time I checked, the rodeo clown's job is to protect the rider with a mixture of humor. Check the video, this was clearly aimed at Obama, whether it was political or racial, it's was distasteful.

Second, a white person was the one calling it a klan rally. A lot of black people don't go to rodeos so I'll wager that's why they thought this would be acceptable. Most racists are afraid to show their true colors around us, that's why Riley Cooper used the N-word at a country concert.

Actually a whole move was put out with Bush being assassinated. It was so typical of the abuse heaped on Bush most people were not even aware of it, so small was the outrage.

Have you seen this movie? Because this is not the first time I've seen it brought up and yet nobody's actually watched it. And from every review I've read, this movie isn't anti-Bush in the least.

It isn't even about Bush. He just happened to the President at the time this movie was made. It's about what happens AFTER a President is assassinated. The assassination is barely even shown. So much for glorifying his death, I guess...

I thought you said there wasn't really outrage about it. Apparently there was, at least from Hillary.

I haven't seen the movie. You haven't either. Every review I've read says the movie really has nothing to do with GWB himself. Do I think it's in poor taste? Probably. But it doesn't sound like it's in any way glorifying a man's death.

The controversy, of course, stems from the use of the current U.S. President as the victim of an assassination. The assassination scene itself flies by and can't be more than 2-3 seconds long, so fast, in fact, you can be forgiven if you miss it altogether. It's what precedes and follows that scene that is the meat of the movie. Film footage of Bush and other real political figures is spliced seamlessly into this film, and includes footage of Vice-President Cheney and Mayor Daley of Chicago. None of these real persons are in any way abused or mis-characterized in the film. And the portrayal of fictional FBI agents, Chicago Police officers, and White House and Secret Service officials is, if anything, mostly very complimentary to them. This film does not do a hatchet job on anyone

I think there is some underlying racism in spending years trying to prove that the President is un-American. Maybe not by all who do it, but by some. When a black President is consistently told to go back to Africa, you have to see how people can take that in a racist way.

But I don't think Marvin believes that Obama is the only President ever to deal with hatred, which is the comment I was responding to.

I read all of Marvin's posts. Sometimes he sees racism in things where there isn't any sign of it, but I can understand why.

You posted that you've been told time and time again that Obama is the only President that offensive sh*t has happened to. I doubt that very much.
