About a month ago, we went to the resturant depo to get supplies. My wife's spring roll and fried rice sale is making some progress and Sam's club doesn't have what she needs. My mom has a membership so she took us and we used her card to get in. This was hot with the TM/GZ story so I asked her does she think racism is still prelevant in our society. She told me a story about a doctor friend who just went to court over discrimination at his job. He was the top doctor at his hospital, the only person of color there. He went up for promotion, and was skipped over by a white doctor with less seniority and less credentials. When he went to file an inquiry about this, he was fired from his job citing poor work ethics. He retained a lawyer and took this to court. Once there, his hospital cited he was counseled twice about his poor work performance. When his lawyer asked to provide the documentation proving this, they couldn't find the paperwork. His lawyer brought every single counseling sheet, every letter of commendation, covering from the beginning of his tenure until he was fired. His record was spotless. There wasn't a single complaint in his file. They were forced to pay his fees and gave him a hefty sum of money plus offered his job back. He didn't take it of course, he told my mom that he did this because he wasn't going to let them destroy his name at the new hospital where he worked.

I'd agree that something seems wrong there based on what you've posted. In the end it seems it all worked out. I'd say our system worked in that case. Like I was saying, discrimination of whatever isn't going to entirely go away. It'll never happen. Like it or not, black people are different than white people in areas other than the color of their skin. They have their own culture just as alot of other groups do in this country. Irish, Polish, Mexican, Martian, Branch Davidian, whatever. So people will always be different in some way or another.

My argument is that minorities are crying racism far to often when there is no racism at all. It takes away from people that truly do suffer from it. I'd say those false racism claims are actually more harmful than the real racism itself. Eventually the real cases of racism will not be taken seriously due to the false cases. I suppose that's really the point I'm trying to make.

The whole time that "trial" was going on, I kept thinking about that guy in Jasper that got dragged behind a truck by some white dudes because he was black. In that case they actually knew each other which made it worse in my mind. Yet I don't recall seeing much about that trial as far as outrage from the AA community. Maybe that's a failure on the part of the media to not give it the coverage the TM/GZ case received. I don't know.

Yes it's alive and well...Just google Al Sharpton,,Black caucus etc..

Tell you what, we'll get rid of the black caucus when the Congressional Caucus gets members of color. And I'll get Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to step down once folks can get jobs based on merit, not names or the neighborhoods they grew up in. Or how about when black men with wallets are finally less dangerous than a white guy with a gun.

When the system works, folks are happy. They hate it when something like this happens, but when you are vindicated, it kind of makes up for it. The problem is our skin color speaks so much louder than most of the races you mentioned. Except hispanics, they kind of get the short end of the stick as well.

I agree, you shouldn't cry racism for every percieved slight. But it does happen more than we know.

Glad you brought this up, I can explain it. I've known about this for a while. The reasons it didn't get any real coverage to the trial or the killing itself, was because it was pretty cut and dry. The dudes that did committed that horrible crime, I believe all but one got the chair, the one still alive has life without parole. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Byrd,_Jr. They were arrested and charged with the crime and the system worked.

I know this will open up a bunch of old wounds, but here goes. When I first heard about GZ/TM, my first thought was some punk kid decided to jump on someone and got shot. This was before most of the story broke. When I found out he was walking home, and GZ was following him without a crime being committed, I started to ask questions and do some research. That's when it started to pick up steam. It's hard for white america to see it the way we do because young black males by design are deemed dangerous.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_black_man_stereotype This isn't just here, but also in the UK as well. Folks have said here and IRL that since 90% of crime is committed by black males, it's only fitting that we are treated differently even though we ourselves aren't doing any crime.

That's why we know if the color was reversed, GZ would have been arrested and sentenced.

Here's this months featured member of the Democratic Caucus. She's black and a woman.

Donna Edwards
Representing the 4th District of MD

Meet Congresswoman Donna Edwards and you’ll immediately sense her strong energy and enthusiasm for her work on behalf of people in her community. According to Edwards – who represents portions of Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery counties – the experience so far has “been really invigorating – exciting.”

Got a question for you. How many minorites do you think are hired over white people? Because there are tons of studies showing employers favoring white people with criminal records over POC without one. Yet I haven't seen one that says blacks and other minorities are taking jobs from white people.

GZ was arrested. He went to trial and was found not guilty as he should have been.

Yes he was, it just took 44 days and national outrage. By all accounts, Trevor Dooley had a much better SYG defense than GZ could dream of, it took 48 hours to arrest him and he is charged with 8 years for manslaughter.

#######? I've never even heard of the NCSL. I bet if it was run by a black guy, you would say, "See they only get black people to run some organization no one has heard of."

Yeah, he never should've been arrested at all. That's what happens when you get the black mafia (Al and Jesse) on your case.

You know me too welldancin5hr.gif But honestly this is what we have to contend with. Just like the folks that talk about BET, NAACP, UNCF or anything else mostly black, they don't want in it, they just want to use it as a counterpunch when we cry racism.

If your case isn't strong enough, Al or Jesse can't save you.

How would the crowd have reacted if the rodeo clown wore a Hillary Clinton mask? My guess is much the same way they reacted to the Obama mask. That's not to say there weren't racists in the crowd. Rodeos are a rural activity generally. Rural equals republican generally. I think there's just as much disdain for Hillary on the right as there is for Obama.

It's like I said before, I think the issue was more about the spectacle that was made rather than the mask itself. If they would have wore the mask and just did what they normally did, no one would have said anything.

SO what you're saying is that they just hate Democrats, white or black. I'd say you got it right.
