Just got my interview date today! 23rd September. Exactly one month today! I called DoS because I saw Azsara's update and the woman said Packet 4 was dispatched today, though there is a bit of confusion about which address it was sent to.

My medical was only one week ago today! So exciting!

Good luck to those still waiting, it seems the Embassy is speeding up a bit now! xxxx

Congrats! How long ago did you change ur address? I changed mine recently too, just before my packet 3 arrived, and my packet 3 went to the riht address, so im assuming my packet 4 should do too xx

Ugh, i think thats a similar type of time i had to wait for them to log my forms. Honestly there was no point in me being proactive in having my packet 3 prepared and sent before they even sent it to me. May aswell have sent it snail mail as seems its taking at least 2 weeks for them to log packet 3 into the system

Although with all due respect to them I really have no idea how the system works, and they may take note of when they actually receive packet 3 back as to how to prioritise interview dates i have no idea

Sounds like a plan!! I really hope to hear something soon!! Did you put a wedding date on your cover letter? I put October 12th.. I'm not sure if that would keep them from logging the papers, but who knows!

Mine is Nov 23rd but I also stated many reasons why I need to be in states by end of September/early October.I'm not sure if having later wedding dates would have anything to do with form leggings either.who knows how they run things!!! Good luck! I'm just trying to put it at the back of my mind as embassy closed til Tuesday now with it being bank holiday

It probably will go just fine. There are hundreds and hundreds of offices across the US. Some have workers who, like your lawyer, think a K1 is not eligible or don't know how to find the name or any other crazy story. K1s are eligible for 90 days, but the SSA won't process the application when there is only 2 weeks left of your 90 days.

Print off this from the SSA which clearly says a K1 is eligible for a card. if somebody says NO, don't get frustrated and leave. Ask for a supurvisor and try to be helped. https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

My husband had no issues at all. We were already married and had applied for AOS. There is no need for them to ask if you are married. But there is also no telling what any one of thousands of workers might do because a K1 is a rare thing to them.

Awesome - thanks Nick-Nich - will do. :) I'm assuming there's a reason we have to wait the 10 days but we will go right after that...we're going to be married about a little over a month after he gets here...

Is there a certain amount of days before we can do our AOS paperwork after we're married? since his parents will be here for the wedding, we were going to wait a week or so before taking a honeymoon so I wanted to do the paperwork with the lawyer right away before we leave. :)

There are lots of other reasons why it's useful to get an SSN - not just for bank accounts. Officially, an SSN is only supposed to be used so that the government can get taxes off you. However, lots of organizations use it to uniquely identify you. I will need it next week to register for a training course that will lead me to taking a state exam. Theoretically, they don't need the SSN but it makes life a darn sight easier having it. To be added to a spouse's health insurance, it makes it easier. To get your own health insurance, it makes it easier. Life is easier if you get your SSN before you're married. Life for the non-US person is enough of a challenge without adding an unnecessary challenge (you can guess I'm chomping at the bit to get to work - there are only so many classes I can take in preparation for working in the US!)

great advice - thanks AG..I think we're going to try it..I feel like if we show up to do our docs with the lawyer right after we are married, and say we have the SSN# already, there's not much he can do and he shouldn't care (I do think he gets a bit annoyed when I go outside the process or nudge it along, etc - oh well ..I don't really care)

So you can take classes if you have the SS number?he's an elementary school teacher and we were told by one vice principal that they think he has enough experience and doesn't need to get his certification here but they were checking into it..(NJ teacher's association does not pick up the phone at all). But if he did, we would love for him to take the classes while he's waiting to be able to work. :)

sorry to hijack your thread jola!

The days suggested was to allow the record of your entry to be recorded manually from the top half of the I-94 they keep so it would appear in the database SSA uses to find the entry status and name. With the I-94 going automated this summer, there really shouldn't be a delay because it all is electronic with data populated by scanning your passport. There is no I-94 card to fill out and tear off half for you and half for Homeland Security. I would guess if you find your I-94 record online, it is also already in the S.A.V.E. database.

There is nothing to hold you back filing except having the proper documents and your lawyer's sense of urgency, which may not match your wishes.

Documents needed you can't do in advance--

*I-94 printed off website. Should be immediate.

*Certified marriage certificate. That depends on your county. With mine when we purchased the license she said we could bring it back in (signed and dated by the officiant) and get instant recording and the marriage certificate or mail it back and they would mail out the certificate. We married on a Su day afternoon and before lu ch on Mo day I had the certificate in hand.

I filled out everything for AOS before he got here. I fully Intended to mail it the day after the wedding but we messed around and didn't get it in the mail until Wednesday or Thursday. All I really needed to do was photocopy the whole thing for records. That was about his 9th day in the country. He had EAD approved something like 71 days after POE I believe ... Oct 1 to Dec 11.

So I'm assuming we don't have to wait around for (at least) 10 days to get married now. Maybe leave a few days for the actual SSN application though, no?

Isn't it no white after Labor Day? All of us girls with our wedding dresses, eh? ;)

Is it recommended to take your own copy of I-29F with you to the States, to help with AOS?

Nich, thanks once again for your help (in the other thread!)
