small chapel wedding on 11/10 (6 people total) so we could file AOS paperwork. J desperately wants to work, so we filed the docs over the holidays hoping that after the Feb wedding he will have EAD.

The fancy 'do is 2/2/07 - can't wait, beachside in Florida.

We did a quickie and eloped to Vegas. No friends or family with 2 witnesses grabbed in the street. Turned out to be the cheapest and easiest thing we could have done. But then again, we never wanted to get married and only did it to follow the rules. We didn't have people who would be offended by not being there though. That would have peeved me no end.

D and I had originally planned a cruise wedding...that way all the guests are entertained all the time & I wouldn't have to play social director with out of towners in Orlando.....then we realized he couldn't leave the country, and since all cruises do, we were basically SOL.

So the new plan was a handful of people, going down to the Keys and getting married on the beach. The beach thing would have still been formal-ish for us as I'd wear a gown and he wear a tux. Then we'd have the cruise wedding a year later. That was the plan up til this weekend.

I don't wanna go into too many particulars right now, but we've knocked the cruise on the head. and NOW....the new plan for the actual wedding is to get married at my parents' estate. There's loads of sprawling grounds and a gazebo which look like a park & will be really picturesque. We'll have the ceremony in the gazebo & arrange the park benches either in a circle, or in rows. I'm going to ask a friend of mine to perform the ceremony as she's a notary. She will make it really special!!! They'll be about 20 ppl or so...then we'll go out to dinner to D's fave restaurant. And go clubbing afterwards (L)

It'll be a lil more relaxed in dress. I actually was looking thru one of my closets and I found a white dress from Express that I bought ages ago & never wore it! White, strapless, goes to lower thigh/upper knee and a bustier-looking quilted bodice with a lilac ribbon around the upper waist. I think I'll replace the lilac with red, but otherwise I think it's perfect. And I'mma wear red shoes, lol! Of course, I'll wear a veil...but I already have a very beautiful Swarovski comb which is perfect for a wedding. He still wanted a tux, but I've said that a suit would be better. We can get all fancy schmancy the following year :)

Now THOSE plans are still in development and very much under wraps until we figure out the particulars

Are you located in Orlando and your fiance in the UK? I am also in Orlando and my finance is in England and it seems that we had the same ideas... Spence and I were originally thinking of just the two of us getting married on a cruise too. For the same reasons... I wouldn't have to be the social director and worry about getting friends and family into the parks but also because he used to work on a cruise ship years ago and we both LOVE cruising! But alas, we can't leave the country. So we were thinking of just the two of us going to Hawaii, then St. Thomas, and finally decided that we want to get married in Key West. We were hoping for just the two of us - but it looks like my parents want to go. So I think I will tell them that they can go, and maybe we will do a small intimate dinner after the ceremony... but then they are on their own. :)

Yep, seems like we had the same line of thought...even the same name, lol. But I'm not in Orlando central...I would say I'm actually closer to Daytona..but you know how it is ;) And yeah, D's from the UK, albeit not London where your man is...he's in the NorthEast.

We were going to do the cruise for us and about 20-30 fam friends...cos who wants to even worry about having to schlep 10-15 out of towners everywhere, or worry about what they're eating, where they're sleeping, etc. Won't do it...no sireee! And don't get me started on the theme parks

Key west is a beautiful place...I've researched quite a bit of it, and found a super phat bakery for the cake ...though many of their dates are booked into 2008 already. I've looked into a few bits and bobs like a sandcastle wedding centerpiece, steel drum wedding music, hotels, photogs, etc. It seems like a lovely idea, tbh....but with what we're planning in 2008 (which is a secret right now, lol) we've decided it's more prudent to have something even more simple...which ironically, worked itself full circle to what D had originally wanted to do in the first place.

I have some links stored of many of the key west places...so if you're interested, just pm me for more

Oh and one of these days, we'll have to do a VJ meet up in Orlando or somewhere

We didn't officially plan anything til Joel received his visa, so we had from May til July to plan the wedding. Then we had to change the date three times to accomodate family members (lobster season wasn't over at the time). We planned a very small wedding, I think we may have had maybe 20-30 people attend, and that was with our attendants and officiants. We'll go back to NS and have another ceremony for family and friends who weren't able to attend the one in the States. We were happy with the small wedding....it was intimate and was very inexpensive. The only thing that mattered to us was the getting married part. :luv:

We really do share the same name... my middle initial is 'D'. So I am Lisa D as well!

Anyway, I would love to see the links you have already found! And an Orlando area VJ meeting sounds like fun!

There was much debate over this. In the long run we decided to do an intimate immediate family wedding then have a bigger reception later. I hate the idea of having two wedding dates.

We're going to have a civil ceremony here in Bulgaria and then go out to dinner with family and a couple of friends afterwards. When we get back to the States, we'll have a little backyard coffee and desserts gathering to toast with friends and family there.

Right now I'm trying to figure out a layout for a bi-lingual wedding announcement - if anyone has any neat design ideas (other than one language on one side and another language on the other), please share!
