What kind of wedding are y'all planning?

It is hard to set a date considering we don't know when our fiance will be able to come to the States.

So I was wondering what kind of wedding is everyone planning or what kind of wedding did you have?

We would like to have an intimate destination wedding, but my mother has let me know how much she would like for us to get married in my hometown (I have not lived there in over 10 yrs and this is my second marriage). And she let me know that if we decide to have the intimate destination wedding, that she wants to be there.

It IS hard to make any firm plans, so you'll probably have to be pretty flexible. When people ask me our wedding date, I tend to say late summer or early fall 2007. I don't plan on putting down any deposits until he has the visa in hand, generally because I don't want to be out that money! :)

Anyway, as this is the second time for both of us, we're not doing anything huge. Just close friends and family - I don't anticipate more than 40 guests. I want it to be simple, yet elegant.

Keep in mind that a destination wedding would have to be within the US. ;) We decided against it only to make it a bit easier for his mom to travel (she is disabled); plus its probably a little more expensive.

Congratulations and good luck!

My fiance has never been to Vegas and thats one of the first places he would like to go so were thinking of getting married there. We prefer to purchase a home than have an all out wedding bash so since money is tight it will be a very small wedding for us along with only immediate family attending.

I can't wait!

Good luck with your plans.

I am trying to decide as well. We originally had planned on having a small ceremony in my mom's beautiful backyard - but since we got delayed with name hit thing - our wedding will be in cold months. Leo says smaller the better. We are thinking about going somewhere - maybe Napa Valley. I'm currently getting some info on some elopement packages. I'm so excited about getting ready to plan it. We are making a decision few weeks after he gets here in Jan - probably early March wedding.

We're planning on getting married at home whether it's warm or not. If it's nice it'll most likely be in the back yard, if not my living area is big enough to invite 20 or so people..it'll be pinched but they'll fit. The only definite is including my kids in the ceremony. The twins will be flower girl and ring bearer..my older 3 girls are to give me away.(I suspect my slightly sarcastic eldest child will say something to the effect of 'take her please!')

We had a "medium" sized wedding based on Mexican weddings. We got married in her home country. I suppose that is differnt than getting married over here on a k1 visa.

Once we got the interview date at the Consulate we started talking about dates. We managed to "tentatively" book a private room at a local restaurant, and the Minister without deposits until we knew we had the visa.

Since our timeline was suggesting I'd get an interview in October or so, I requested November. My interview was in November. The visa is good for six months, so it expires 16 May 2007. So we then decided on a backyard wedding, a late morning wedding, a luncheon reception on 07 April 2007.

Both of us wanted something small, we're inviting about 40 people, and this willl be a perfect venue. April in St. Louis can be beautiful ( I was there last year, same time and it was HOT!). If it rains, or it's very very cool, we can get married inside the house.

I'm leaving the US at the end of January, so this still gives me time to do some more planning before the wedding.

Kiefer and I are going to have a small civil ceremony either in the US or in Uruguay. We haven't decided yet. Then once we are in the US together we are going to have a reception for the family in a beautiful restaurant in downtown Chicago with a live band.

Currently: Trying to decide which kind of visa to file for.

I find this question so interesting. My fiance has not even mentioned anything about it and left everything up to me. Of course that lays a hell of a burden since i am a man. Our theory always is "where is it, the time and where do i get the tux". It will have to be within the last 30 days of the visa since we will be away from Ct for the first 60.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, too. The move, getting an apartment, and AOS fees are really gonna kill us. Plus we want our religious wedding to be larger than our civil marriage. So we don't really know what we're gonna do yet. It's gonna depend on what we can afford combined with what we decide we want. I know I want the Church wedding to be the big whoop-de-doo, decorations, big dress with a big train, etc. But I want the civil marriage to be special, too. We'll have to see when the time gets closer.

We wanted to get married in a private family ceremony in a cabin in Amish country (about 2 hours from here). We caved to family pressure because my sister felt our ailing grandmother could not travel that far.

We ended up with a small elegant ceremony in a local hotel (pics in 'my photos' here). It was wonderful and I wouldn't change it. My grandmother passed away 9 months later, so I'm glad we did it.

If you give in to mom, just let her know you are giving in on this issue and not all of them. That's what we did. We kept it at home so they all could attend, but beyond that we kept control of the reins.

Of course we were paying for things. Your mom might look at things differently if she's footing the bill.

D and I had originally planned a cruise wedding...that way all the guests are entertained all the time & I wouldn't have to play social director with out of towners in Orlando.....then we realized he couldn't leave the country, and since all cruises do, we were basically SOL.

So the new plan was a handful of people, going down to the Keys and getting married on the beach. The beach thing would have still been formal-ish for us as I'd wear a gown and he wear a tux. Then we'd have the cruise wedding a year later. That was the plan up til this weekend.

I don't wanna go into too many particulars right now, but we've knocked the cruise on the head. and NOW....the new plan for the actual wedding is to get married at my parents' estate. There's loads of sprawling grounds and a gazebo which look like a park & will be really picturesque. We'll have the ceremony in the gazebo & arrange the park benches either in a circle, or in rows. I'm going to ask a friend of mine to perform the ceremony as she's a notary. She will make it really special!!! They'll be about 20 ppl or so...then we'll go out to dinner to D's fave restaurant. And go clubbing afterwards (L)

It'll be a lil more relaxed in dress. I actually was looking thru one of my closets and I found a white dress from Express that I bought ages ago & never wore it! White, strapless, goes to lower thigh/upper knee and a bustier-looking quilted bodice with a lilac ribbon around the upper waist. I think I'll replace the lilac with red, but otherwise I think it's perfect. And I'mma wear red shoes, lol! Of course, I'll wear a veil...but I already have a very beautiful Swarovski comb which is perfect for a wedding. He still wanted a tux, but I've said that a suit would be better. We can get all fancy schmancy the following year :)

Now THOSE plans are still in development and very much under wraps until we figure out the particulars

Me + Sian + Jordan + Mom + Sian's Dad (hopefully) + a couple of friends + Justice of the Peace/Court Officer at the Putnam County Courthouse - 2 blocks from my house. Sian has ruled out my plan to wear shorts and a T-Shirt, though.

I always wanted an outdoor wedding. Will be far too cold. So, looks like a courthouse wedding for us. Honeymoon....have no idea. Will likely be later on. We have a 12 year old (13 by then) to consider.

We had a quickie (as in, just sign the papers) civil thing for AOS purposes. We planned our big wedding wayy in advance.

Once he got the NOA2, I put a deposit down on the wedding location for 8 months later, thinking that would give us time for him to get here, and if not, we would just be out a deposit. Well, he got here a lot sooner than expected! So, we did the civil thing and had loads of time to plan the big ceremony.

We had it at a golf club. The ceremony was by the creek at sunset, with a string duo and a bagpiper, and the reception was inside the clubhouse. It was the most special day of my life, and I would not have changed a thing! Only immediate family knew we were already legally married, but to us, *this* is what sealed the deal.

Whatever you decide, it will be special and memorable, especially after having to go through the trials and tribulations of immigration, & all that time apart.

Good luck!
