I got my EAD in the 3rd week of November. Luckily Jackson Hewitt were taking in people for their tax season and I saw an advertisement in the last week of November. Applied immediately. Had to take their tax classes since I am new to US taxation laws. They just confirmed my employment last week after passing their various tests and an interview.

Will start working for them in January 2014. Although this is a temporary position, I received hints that there is a possibility that it can have permanent prospects based on my performance.

Reading all of this gets me quite worried, I'll be in Oregon in a month and I don't have any university degree. I'm very well-trained in hospitality and coffee, so I don't mind doing a sub-minimum wage job for tips. I don't need much, I just want to get by. Does anybody know much about working in Oregon?

I hear Oregon is one of the most desirable states to live in (economy, weather, etc) so I think you'll be fine! If you can get your first job waiting tables at a nice, upmarket restaurant, you should be doing quite well money-wise. Americans tip very generously here. I think it's between 15-20%.

I'm still waiting for my EAD. I can't wait to start working.

Well I got a wealth of experience in the medical field, so I knew before I arrived it would be fine. I arrived Jan 2013 and decided to relax a bit before I decided to look for a job. In march I started first with being a business consultant and to my surprise i did not like it very much. I then found a Job as an Office manager at a Chiropractic clinic and worked there for 8 months. I decided to leave for two reasons. the first being the lack of professionalism and the latter being the need to work for a huge organization where my career path would be enhanced rather than stifled. I am about to start a job this week as an executive Assistant at a competitive company. Little butterflies are floating around at this time but I think I will give it a try. I am in Wisconsin and the job market here is lucrative. If you have the experience and expertise, you will be picked quickly. I never applied for low end jobs because i knew I could do better but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. All you need is a start and you can go from there.

Americans are rather curious people an not to be trusted. Very few sincere people you would find. All you need to do is be professional and you should have no problems at all.

My husband got a six figure job! FINALLY! Not in our most preferred of places, but finally!

Congratulations, Amy!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
