I am in the process of changing my name with credit card & utility companies... I've heard that for the AOS interview some mail is recommended/required. I am thinking of adding my husband as a secondary user on my credit cards. If i do that will he show up on the statements? I also plan to put the utilities in both our names and add him to my bank account. Anybody have any experience in this area? We got him an SS card... any ideas on how to establish his credit? should I have him apply for credit cards individually?

If you have an AOS interview, they usually want to see proof of co-mingling and co-habitation. Joint accounts, taxes, utilities, lease/mortgage, and IDs with same address listed. It is good to establish these things early because even if you don't need them for an AOS interview, you will need that type of evidence for when you apply to remove conditions(ROC) on the 2 year green card. You will need evidence that spans the entire length of your marriage for ROC.

If added as an authorized user, then he may not show up on the statements. You can make copies of both cards that show the same numbers and there should be somewhere that lists he is an authorized user. You can print out that info, even if it is from your online account information. You can also ask your creditor for a letter or statement that shows proof of authorized users. If you open a new credit card with him as your joint applicant, then he will appear on the statements and it will help establish his credit as well.
