This is fantastic! Congrats to all transferred beneficiaries!

It is amazing how common problems unite people...

I am waiting for approval for 16 days already... I hope it will be soon.

Also, can you please tell me how your U.S. petitioners filed taxes? Should they do it now or after approval (I think there is no difference, but maybe I am unfamiliar with some details on that)? How should they file if we are married, but live in different parts of the world?

My husband is planning on filing married, filing seperately. It was too much hassle for us to go through and issue an ITIN number for me, which is something you wil have to apply for if your spouse wants to file married, filing jointly.

I don't think it makes a difference when you file, just as long as its done before April 15th.

Should we get a case at NVC before my husband files for his taxes, we are planning on using 2012 tax transcripts as the most recent year of taxes on our I-864. Then I'll just bring with me to embassy interview his 2013 tax transcript which will be available after June or July 2014.

For more info read the first 2 posts on http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/478133-nvc-filers-february-2014/

Saylin gives great advice for the whole NVC process, and since it is tax season, there quite a bit of information and links to help you figure out what you want to do.

B & G, thanks a lot. This is very helpful.

What is the ITIN number? Does it make a difference if I already have a SSN and have lived in the U.S. for a long time before our marriage?

If you already have a SSN then you do not need an ITIN. Basically an ITIN is a tax file number for a non-resident, thats never been issued a SSN.

Since you have a SSN, I will leave it to someone else to answer because I really don't know what the procedure is. Never researched it as I don't have a SSN.

Otherwise, speak to an accountant to see how you should be filing and what you need to file.

Wish I could be of more help!

Can someone advise whether it would be better to file married jointly provided I, the beneficiary, have the SSN?

Hello everyone, good to find fellow people who petitioned in August 2013 here. I got my i-130 approval as well *hop* *hop*!! Congratulations to the ones who have recently received the approval as well :D Just wanted to know what comes next? Anyone received any word from NVC yet? Would i get an e-mail or just the regular mail? I got my NOA-1 through both the channels however after that i never received an e-mail just regular mail delivery. Also, will the NVC send documents etc at my US address or my husbands address abroad?

I really want an approval soon. I see that many of us who have been transferred on 2/3 are still waiting...

It is horrible how this waiting changes our lives, brings down our careers... because we cannot plan, just wait and wait... I agree, however, that we should be thinking about other things that make us happy. Sometimes it is hard though because these documents become our priority. People do not look at you as a family, but as a single person whose husband is somewhere and it is unclear to many why we have been apart for so long. While I generally do not care, gradually all these words of other people get into me...

You are going to be approved anyday brother.

Make sure all your documentation is ready for the NVC (I'm struggling with this right now despite being approved)

Also, once you do get approved, there's a 1.5 month buffer where your case is supposedly on a career pigeon going from the west coast to the east coast (to the NVC). CIS will not tell you when and if you were shipped.

The approval wears off really quick - trust me.

Keep the faith

aditya3245, thanks :) But I am a sister rather than a brother :)

What main sources do you use for gathering the documents for NVC? It seems to me that there are so many links and discussions, but it would be helpful to simplify the process and use one or two links that contain the necessary information.

1.5 months!!! Thats quite a lot of time!! So there wont be any confirmation or notice, between this time period, to give the satisfaction that my petition is indeed being processed? :P

Also if we could discuss what are the documents the NVC needs? that would be great!

It takes 1.5 months for the magical elves at NVC to give you a CASE NUMBER and a INVOICE ID ( I promise to not use any more fairy tale references :D)

You could be done sooner.

YOU are supposed to start calling two times a week after TWO WEEKS after your approval.

Proactive is the keyword with them.
