So since there isn't much going on here today....let me pose a question and see what you think I should do.

As the US citizen I have NOT yet changed my name and was waiting for this whole process to complete and hubby to come to US before I change my name.

However, my passport is full and I need to either submit for more pages for existing passport with current maiden name (costs $82) or get a new passport with my new name ($110).

If I change my name now, it will save me money on the passport (otherwise I have to pay the $82 now for pages and then the $110 when I do change my name).

Also, I have to apply for my Indian PIO card in May (after 1 yr of marriage) and if I still have my maiden name I will have to pay for 2 PIO cards (1 now in 2014 and then one when I do change my name) .Not to mention my drivers license is also coming for renewal in april so if I change my name now i can update my DL too.

I am worried that if I change my name now, how will that impact the immigration process (the i130, CR1 etc). If its best to wait, I will and pay double for my passport, PIO card, driver's license etc. BUT if its not a big deal to change my name during this process it might be easiest for me to do it all in the next few months!

thoughts??

I am thinking they should not have an issue with you changing the maiden name. But, safest would be to wait until the uscis portion is done as background checks happen at this juncture etc if you aren't travelling. NVC process is different more on the income and other issues. And finally, why stay with the PIO card, just get an OCI? i got my OCI within 50 days. From past experience, i didnt submit passport copies and tax returns can still be under the old name since he is not on your returns yet or vice versa.

My wife changed her name recently on her passport as hers (with 3 inserts already) was used up. Our lawyer says it shouldn't be an issue at all. To be fair we filed in her married name anyway, and she changed her SSN and drivers licence etc already.

I would just always carry a copy of your marriage certificate when you travel

I was thinking. It seems April/May filers were mostly sent to TSC/NSC while June (perhaps half and half) and July were at CSC. Im not sure if August will transfer to TSC/NSC as they seem to have their hands full with the previous months. CSC can approve in record times, so it makes sense to keep the approvals coming for August/September at the CSC over the next few months. Then by this time TSC/NSC should be caught up with April/May. Then all centres can start on the petitions that were sent directly.

However, the spanner in the works so to speak, is that we are seeing a very slow rate of transfers now....

July is not mostly CSC.

Its splitting 50-50 between CSC and non CSC.

Bear in mind also that not everyone who goes to the CSC gets approved in a week or two.

I would still stick to our hypothesis from earlier - if you're lucky 7 months overall - if not 9 months to approval.

Yea true. I am worried about the poor level of transfers though to be honest

I think i may have misspoke. You may have to live there to get a citizenship...oci probably is not an option.
