Hi everyone! I have a quick question.

I filed for marriage based US residency when we had been married for less than a year. Our two-year wedding anniversary is this December. When I got my package from the DR consulate it specified I have to remove conditions in two years after I received my GC (received it in late July). However, upon looking at the card itself, it says it's valid for 10 years! I kinda naturally assumed a CR1 greencard would only be valid for two. Is there an error here? I still plan on filing to remove conditions later on but...then I just don't get a new card then?

Thanks!

It is a mistake and if you don't correct it you can get in a lot of trouble. Send it back and get a new one made. Some people have ignored it and then had a huge hassle for failure to ROC, like a cancellation of LPR status.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

I agree. Sometimes things like that happen. If you recognize it it's best to let them know right away so they can fix it.

07-22-2013: Application sent (Delivered: 07-24-13)

You are required to remove conditions at 2 years no matter what card they issued. It is on you to remember to do this and failure to do so automatically causes you to lose status. Look at that residence since date and triple mark the calender for 2 years minus 90 days from that date. Call Monday and report their error , fill out your replacement as USCIS error ( the new card is free then ) and make copies before you send everything in .

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks everyone. Don't worry about me not removing conditions - I'm well aware of the timeframe. My card could've very well never been issued and I would still need to remove conditions. I just thought the expiration date was random.

Funny how everything USCIS has done wrong has happened AFTER POE...

It has happened quite a bit on the forum lately. I've seen at least 10 people with the exact same issue. You have two things you can do, send the card back with the I-90 and ask for them to fix it, or ignore it and make sure that you file the ROC when you need to.

I don't recommend ignoring it, because when it's time to file ROC, you will send a copy of the GC. The GC will say it is still valid, and often the mailroom people will reject the package because it looks like you are doing the wrong thing (and the mailroom people are not adjudicators and don't have access to your real computer file as far as I know). It just creates more headaches. Just get the card corrected now, for free. Like I said, she can get a stamp in her passport in the meantime and it will make no difference to you, except a tiny bit of paperwork now, to save a huge hassle later,

Well turns out that USCIS noticed their error and requested for me to send the card back so they can replace it at no cost. Maybe they have their act together more than I think. Kudos.
