passport style photo instructions

The instructions for the I-129F explicitly say to use a felt pen or pencil and write on the back of the passport photo. However, writing on the back is terrible because the felt pen tends to show on the front and NEVER dries enough to not smear. And the pencil is ####### because it is too lite to read.

So I bought shipping labels with sticky backs and I can print the names on those and stick it on the back of the photo. This works well, but I called USCIS support today and ask if this method is ok and she said no that I should follow the instructions exactly.

What did some of you guys do?

Thank you in advance!

I used an ultra fine felt tip for the passport photos. For the other pics in the package, I printed the names and required info on shipping labels and stuck them on the backs of the pics.
