In some ways they are. Apples are leaving California being replaced by grapes. Almost all the apple production has moved up to Washington state. The largest grower in my region sold all his interest to his foreman, and turned all his own land into grapes. There is only one processing plant left in the area. The next nearest one is two hours away.

Yup those thousands already have jobs; working in hotels, doing lawn care, picking the vegetables and fruit you eat... etc. ;)

No additional work ... no additional permits.... no need for more folks crossing the border.... which brings us back to all the illegals that should make their way to Washington and claim residency. :)

You conveniently forgot to mention the millions of undocumenteds who work those jobs. There aren't anywhere near enough work permits for them, let alone for those who are still south of the border and want to work here...which brings us back to the conclusion that you didn't understand the Washington State residency requirements in the link I posted.

Bill, I'll give you one guess about who picks the vast majority of apples in Washington State.

And the apple growers usually can't get enough of them.

I know. The crews priced themselves right out of a job, which is why the grower in my area went to grapes. Plus, he is contracted to a major wine producer. All he has to do now is wait for those checks to show up in the mail. No more negotiating with migrant crews.

The crews don't set the price of labor, the growers do. There's no negotiating. The apple pickers get paid by the bin. The minimum they get is the state's minimum wage. And who do you think is going to work the vineyards?

Not here. There is a shortage of farm workers for some crops and in some areas. If you don't pay what they want, your crops don't get to market. Apple pickers were asking over $20/hour. They get paid by the hour, not the "bin".

Those are the ones that can go to Washington, or better yet back across the border where they belong, then get a work visa...

Sure I understood! Washington doesn't require a person to be legally in the USA to be a reside of Washington... :)

I am trying to find out if my fiancee can legally use her Filipino Drivers License in Washington State and for how long before needing to get the official WA State Lic.

cjmc

is possible you are mixing

the priviledges 'granted' to tourists

with

the requirements for immigrant visa holders.

Keep that in mind, when you are studying the WA DMV stuff.

You might be right, Darnell, but I looked on their site, and saw nothing about that. Same thing here in AK. That's why I recommended a call to the DMV. And make sure you speak to a manager, NOT a desk flunkie. We had met ALL the requirements on the AK DMV site, even had extra ID available, and still could not get a permit. It was frustrating.

So, when they go back across the border, who's going to do those jobs? You can't get people here to do them, and there certainly aren't enough work permits available to put a dent in the resulting labor shortage.

Also, thank you for acknowledging that you don't know about, nor care to learn about, Washington residency.

... like I have a reason to know or even care about Washington residency.... I just think about 20 million illegals should think about heading that way.

I tried calling DMV but could never get anyone to answer, so I guess when I get back home, I will have to drive to one of their offices and talk to someone...and then making sure you get the correct information....uggggg !!!!

Cheers !!!! As the Journey Continues !!!

Oh - before going out in person, make certain you have printed all of the pertinent stuff off of the DMV website, to bring it in. It's quite possible you'll be doing on-the-job training with the human across the window.
