I am currently a permanent resident of the USA and my fiance lives in Manila, Philippines. My plan is to apply for a fiance visa once I have my citizenship taken care of, however I recently found out about DCF. Now I'm thinking that maybe this is the best route to take to reduce time apart. I'm thinking of flying back to Manila around October next year (I should be a citizen at that time already.) And then get married there and apply for I-130. Do you think this will work? I'm still a bit clueless as to how DCF works so I will really appreciate an insight or advice. Thank you!

You are supposed to be legally LIVING abroad for 6 months, not just traveling. However, each embassy is different, maybe someone from the Philippines will say differently.

9/17/2011-----Married
2/17/2012-----Found out we were pregnant
10/17/2012---Baby boy was born
2/17/2013-----Submitted documents for Baby's American citizenship
3/07/2013---- Baby got his American Citizenship!
3/22/2013-----Baby got his American Passport!
4/25/2013-----Baby got his social security number in the mail
8/26/2013---- Applied for USC's Dominican residency visa
8/29/2013-----Picked up DR residency visa
9/5/2013-------Deposit I-130 locally

10/02/2013----Found out our I-130 was approved on 9/18/2013

10/03/2013----Received case number (SDO number) via emai
10/16/2013--- Got our cita for Januray!
10/17/2013- ---Baby turns 1 year.
11/06/2013---- Received hardcopy of NOA2 with further instructions
12/06/2013- ---Hubby goes for Medical
12/09/2013---- Found out we are pregnant with baby number 2!!
12/17/2013-----Found out hubby can't be issued 'buena conducta' (good conduct police report) due to a traffic accident
01/03/2014- ---CITA! ***APPROVED*** Must send in Buena conducta through DOMEX before they will put the visa in his passport
02/03/2014----Turned in police report through Domex in Santo Domingo
~~~Currently under AP, waiting for the call to come pick up his passport in Santo Domingo~~~

July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

I am born and raised in the Philippines. Lived there 17 years of my life, then moved to the USA. So if I get naturalized here, I will remain a permanent resident of the Philippines (that's what I read, anyway.)

From what I believe, you need to be living in the country that you are applying for DCF in, 6 months prior to the beginning of the immigration process.

I am the USC, my husband is German.

I resided in Germany from July 2008-October 2013.

I have two stepsons who are staying in Germany.

Our son was born 3/3/2012 and our daughter was born 4/4/2015.

DCF STARTED!MAY 14, 2013: I-130 Petition sent to Frankfurt as registered mail w/ return receipt!

MAY 15, 2013: Mail signed for in Frankfurt. NOA1

MAY 21, 2013: Return receipt came back in the mail.

MAY 25, 2013: $420 Petition fee was charged to our credit card.

MAY 25, 2013: NOA1 paperwork received in the mail.

JULY 12, 2013: NOA2 received.

JULY 13, 2013: NOA2 sent back.

AUG 15, 2013: Packet 3 sent in.

AUG 30, 2013: Husband's medical in Berlin.

SEPT 12, 2013: Received letter with husband's interview date!

SEPT 19, 2013: INTERVIEW. APPROVED!!

SEPT 21, 2013: Visa received.

OCT 5, 2013: POE in Newark, NJ (layover).

DEC 17, 2013: SSN Card finally arrived!

DEC 19, 2013: Husband (beneficiary) got his first job in the USA! And he loves it!

DEC 28, 2013: Green card arrived!

FUTURE: Visas for my stepsons!

Even if yopu are still a Philippines citizen, you must live there for 6 months before filing. They will want to see proof of that.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
