We are in the same situation, but me and my child's interview is still on Sept 2013. 2 months ago, I called USCIS twice and asked about that, the rep told me that YES, we still have to pay for it, both for me and my child. A VJ friend of mine had her interview with her minor daughter last month, she also asked the American Consul about it, the Consul replied YES too.

Upon POE, they will become USC accdg to US Child Citizenship Act. The stamp on their passports upon POE will be good for 1 year accdg to Darnell. My husband plans to get a US passpport for our child immediately thereafter.

So confusing..Please update me soon. Thanks. smile.png

I say no, not to pay that fee for an IR-2 when/if the child qualifies for immediate-ish citizenship after POE.

At POE, a stamp is issued in the passport, that validates the VISA inside the passport to be used as a temporary I-551 document, a 1 year green card.

Also, at the POE, the entry record is made into the SAVE database, so the eligibility for other stuff is turned on .

That's my 2 cents, for the moment.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
