Okay s Monday is starting to look more appealing. I received an email from my finace. We have a phone date tonight. (nudge nudge wink wink) :P

Yesterday afternoon I had an interesting conversation with someone. They were shocked (though they would deny it, the look on their face said it all) when i described my wedding ring choice. I have decided on wearing 2 bands for my wedding ring. Both in silver. One a silver band from Morocco and one a silver band from Tiffany's. (yes i want the little blue box and yes I watch Breakfast at Tiffany's too much  ) . I was told that silver is not approriate for a weddng ring because it is not gold. I was told if I do not like gold, I should get white gold because my wedding ring should reflect the importance of my committement. Silver is just too cheap to reflect this! :o .

We got moved into our new house on Friday. Got most of the boxes unpacked and things put in it's place. The carport is full of empty boxes. I cant even get my tahoe in there. The garbage guys are gonna hate us on Thursday. Hachemi and I both are so exausted and are now sick. We are going to the civil surgeon this afternoon to get the vaccination document done for AOS. It is ready to send except for that. I will be glad to get it sent off, finally. Hope every one has a good day.

Was it JP? (only kidding JP). and what about my committment, I don't even wear a ring!

Not sure who said this, but I think for a lot of MENA people, gold is valuable because it holds its value. Diamonds, other stones and siliver are considered 'cheap'. Thel thinking is that gold gives a women wealth independent of her husband.

I plan on doing exactly what I want to do :D But I was talking about my rings on my hand, not for my SO. When we first met, we exchanged rings. I had this silver ring from Italy htat I always wore on my middle finger, It was inexpensive but I loved it. He had a ringer (with some of the Berber Alphabet on it) that did't fit even my middle finger well but I loved it. After we exhanged rings I was teased by the people I was traveling with (both Moroccan and American) because either I made a huge cultural faux pas or I was engaged. Turns out I did end up being engaged (F)

He still wears my ring. I lost mine in the airport. :crying: I know my SO will want to continue to wear this ring of mine rather than buy a wedding ring for himself.

You know, Noura, I have been told that Muslim men are not supposed to wear gold, but while in Egypt, it seemed a normal thing to get simple gold wedding bands . . . they have bags full of these things that they pull out when you go to the jeweller . . . already sized up, lol, and ready to engrave with your names. These are basic bands. . . . no diamonds anywhere.

After all that, I find out my husband prefers silver,:lol: . So maybe I should get him a silver ring with a skull on it?:lol::lol:

I once had a long discussion with a group of Saudis who tried to convince me that the gold they were wearing was not haram because it was only 14kt and therefore not real gold.

That is what Usama told me. I asked what we will do about rings and he said we'll just go to the store and get them and have them engraved. I was kinda shocked like it was no big deal but I guess it's a common thing. I could care less what I wear. I just want something to remind me of him though. :)

Do you know if the sizes there are the same as sizes here? He said he could get it done ahead of time if he knew my size but I don't even know my size since I"ve lost weight and I wasn't sure if it would be the same or not.

Doodle...they usually have several different sized rings on hand. Wide bands, thin bands also. I chose a thin, simple band for myself. Gold prices go up and down so I hope you guys catch it on the down cycle. When I was there last year in Dec. gold was about 70LE a gram. In the summer it was up to 102LE a gram.

Mohamed has a silver band but it's kinda crappy silver so I'll prob. get him a better one once he's here inshallah.

Moody, my Mohammed has worn his crappy silver ring for 4 years, so for our wedding anniversary this year, I bought him a better shiny one and when he went to take off his original wedding ring, his face was so sad. I asked him what was wrong, and he said he preferred the worn ring with more meaning. (L)

Needless to say, I returned the new ring and he proudly wears the ring I gave him in Jordan.

Jean, you are almost at '2' ;)
