I became very fond of the food on my first visit to Singapore, and I know my fiancee is quite fond of some of the foods she found in the states. my question, what's the best thing you ate, in any country?

My favorite was hokkien prawn mee, from a food court at the Clementi Mall

If I have to pick a favorite, I have 3 memorable meals that comes to mind.

My husband (then bf) moved to Miyagi Ken when we were still dating. It is in the Tohoku Region of Honshu Island which has (arguably) the best fishing in Japan. I remembered going to the fish market and seeing fish of different kinds and sizes everywhere. We went to a small restaurant there and had the freshest sushi in town and it was cheap too! We've went to several restaurants for sushi (here in the US) since then and it is never the same.

Second, was a tasty cheese pizza I got from this hole in the wall pizza place I found with a bunch of other girls from my hostel in down town Rome. I was there backpacking in 2008 and had not had anything quite as tasty the whole time I was there. It was a huge pizza for 4 euros, freshly made by a father and son pizzaria. We chatted with the owners, ate the best pizza ever and downed it with cheap Spanish beer (Estrella) and had a darn good time at the piazza with other kids on a cool friday evening.

Third, is freshly chucked oysters from my husband's home of New Orleans, Louisiana. OMG, oysters dipped in a special dipping sauce of worcestershire sauce, horse radish, ketchup and crystal hot sauce and your all set! Yumyumyum!

Sein oder Nichtsein, das ist heir die Frage.

hokkien mee is the shiznet. I learned a trick about it.

Get it to go. It'll get wrapped in a liquid proof wrapper. After 15 minutes - any liquid it came with, is soaked up into the noodles. OMG.

-----

My fav food (also from Singapura) is Curry Laksa. (penang laksa bu hao) .

My 2nd fav food is Poutine, from Canada.

My 3rd fav food is mutton tajine, from Morocco.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hey. Small world. I have lived in Sendai. The akagai, uni, and oysters are superb there. I am a bit cautious since hearing about the water leakage problems at Fukushima. I love oysters from Matsushima or Noto Hanto, either fresh or grilled with sake. Yummy.

Kobe beek teppanyaki still is up there too.

Also the Tom yum kun I had in Chang Mai is up there's, together with a goat's brain curry I had in Bagan, Myanmar.

I addition my fiance's brascioule (sp?) are to die for.

Best meal ever? Steak and chips at a street cafe on the back streets of Rio de Janeiro.

Yummmmm.

I ate some steak in Rio and got food poisoning. I vomited so much I was throwing up blood. Since then I have been cautious of Brazilian meat.

When you've spent 4 weeks eating German cooking while working your way across the Atlantic, this steak was absolute heaven. :P

My friend, on the other hand, spent the next morning tossing his cookies big style. Not sure if it was the food, the way the ship was rolling in the swell, or psychosomatic. But I was fine. ;)

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
