Father's name NOT on birth certificate. Interview tomorrow!

Was casually looking at the embassy interview checklist and realised it states that the original birth certificate must be long form version and include BOTH PARENTS NAMES.

I sent the long version of my birth certificate to NVC but only my mum's name is on it. I have never had any contact with my father (I'm 25) and never will do. I guess my mum left him off so he didn't have any rights to me (??). I know his name but that is all and I have put it on all of my forms up to now and just put address/date of birth etc. as "unknown".

Does any one have any experience with this and does it really become an issue at the interview?

I've scrolled through forums looking for an answer but never found one London/UK specific.

Please help!

I don't think it will matter. It is the long form version meaning a place is there for both parents, rather than the short form that some British use for school that has no place for parent names. You have provided the long form as required. Your mother chose to not name the father. It was legal and acceptable to do that and you or US immigration can't create a new birth certificate. What you have done thus far sounds perfect.

Thanks for the answer!!

I've got my mum to write an affidavit stating that I've never had contact with him and she has always had sole custody of me. I'm thinking they probably won't even ask about it but I feel better now I have the letter.

I guess it's only important if you're taking kids to immigrate with you.

Fingers crossed and wish me luck. Cannot wait to get it outta the way :D

Thanks again for responding :)

Just want to follow this up in case someone else has this issue and finds this thread ?

The interviewer did bring it up - asked why I knew my fathers name but he wasn't on birth certificate. I just explained that I have never had ay contact with him and my mum always had sole custody of me. That seemed to satisfy his curiosity. Didn't need to show the letter from my mum or anything.

Visa approved!!

Thank you so much for this post. I am in a similar situation right now and it affects my daughter whose birth certificate has only me as her parent. No dad's name on it. I feel relieved.. Thank you
