Hello everyone!

Up until now I was planning on going the fiance visa route to bring my Japanese fiance to the US but it was suggested to me that I should look into DCF because it might be faster. The problem is that I know absolutely nothing about DCF in Japan. Every call to the consulate in Japan costs 15 bucks and they've been less than helpful in the past so any info you guys can give me would be awesome.

I'm currently in the US but will be moving back to Japan in about a month where my fiance is currently living.

So how do I go about doing a DCF in Japan? Is there a checklist somewhere of things I need to do? How long does it take on average? Is it really faster than either a normal fiance or spouse visa? Are there any requirements that I might not meet and need to check?

Sorry that I don't know much about this yet but I was recommended doing a DCF all of 15 minutes ago and told to ask you guys for the basic information.

Thanks for any info you can give me!

Adamkun,

The process involves marrying in Japan and submitting documents directly with the Embassy. Generally, the visa is issued in a matter of days, as opposed to months required through USCIS.

Although we all appreciate instant gratification, I suggest you monitor your post for a few days to allow other more experienced people to chime in. Sundays are rather slow around here.

Bottom line, you can get this done.

Wait.. So is DCF just sending your I-130 to Tokyo instead of the USCS?

Wait.. So is DCF just sending your I-130 to Tokyo instead of the USCS?

Yes, that's basically all that is different about it. :)

Have you read through the DCF Guide yet? http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=dcf

Once you read that, the excellent link from the Tokyo website will make more sense.

By filing at Tokyo, you save yourself the time processing in a US Service Center and the NVC--about 8 months saved.

By filing this way vs a K-1, your beloved moves to America sooner and becomes a Permanent Resident at her entry with no need to file more paperwork as soon as she gets here. Her Green Card is sent directly to her within a month.

By marrying in her home country, your bride may be happier with her wedding, and can plan it as she prefers,

Those are my main reasons to think it's better. The benefits of arriving as a PR can not be overstated--she will hit the ground running and will not be concerned with living in limbo, as many K-1s are.

Now That You Are A Permanent Resident

Yes, even this last one.. stuff in there that not even your USC knows.....
