Is tax transcripts and form 1040 the same? Will the embassy look for form 1040 than the tax transcript IRS mailed us upon request?

They're not the same thing, but each are equally valid when it comes to demonstrating you filed taxes.

Thanks for your help. So since i only have the Tax transcript, is it a guarantee that the US embassy upon interview wont be asking for the Form 1040?

From what I've read from previous threads Tax Transcripts = 1040 +W2's. I believe soon they'll begin to only requestyou Tax Transcripts as they are official records from the government of what you reported and they include the info from your W2's.

Always go with tax transcripts. They are not the same as 1040's. Here is why:

1. The tax transcript shows you did file since it comes from the IRS for the tax year in question.

2. The 1040 does not show you filed. It shows you filled out the form but that is all it shows.

So a W2 and a 1040 does NOT equal a tax transcript. The tax transcipt is always the golden item to have over the 1040.

For your last question, they have no need to ask for a 1040 if you present the transcript.

No, it isn't a guarantee at the U.S. Embassy Manila. Over the years, I've seen a few cases there where they wouldn't take a transcript and, instead, required the 1040 and W-2. Are you feeling lucky?
